Author Topic: Come July 1, 2014, all GFWL servers will be shut down.  (Read 3851 times)

If Valve were to go out of business steam would die with it and then there goes all of your games. *poof*, just like that.
lol i doubt thats gonna happen anytime soon

valve and gabe are worth billions so they arent going bankrupt in our lifetime

But my Xbox friends

One day GabeN is going to have to either step down and retire or he will not be with us in the future. His successor could possibly make some decisions that make Valve become unpopular. Maybe they wont, I don't know. There are a lot of what if's.

This would be a major problem as noted, not just for GTA but most games with GFWL integration. Some games might not get patched, leading to portions or the entire games becoming inoperable. I was scared BioShock 2 might go down, but heard Minerva's Den is coming to Steam. In that case, that probably are considering updating the overall game. Of course GTA IV will be updated - Even as a past project, it's relatively big and having is break would not be a good reflection on them.

dark souls noooo D:

I actually heard of this through someone telling me that apparently they already said they will be updating to Steamworks.

Well, I'm upset.

I am a big fan of Age of Empire Online and still play it today.
I've spent money on the game too, and I have friends that I play with.

It's a real shame that it seems it might entirely up and vanish.

I hope something can be sorted out with it so that it can be hosted through another server, Steam for example (which it is "sold" on).
3 years of life for a game like that is very short.
I'm not very happy about this.

i don't have any of those games

Oh crap my GTA4 saves.
I use an offline account, so maybe nothing will happen to them...

Cloud is backup, usually.

GFWL always finds a way to stuff on our parade, even after it's shut down

i hope theres steam keys given to people that bought games on the marketplace, i have arkham asylum and aoe3

Wait, what exactly is happening and how is it significant?

The rumor regarding Dark Souls are false; there are no plans as of yet to have the game ported to Steamworks.

I doubt Microsoft would work to do this, although individual games might provide it.

Games for Windows Live is a service Microsoft had in an attempt to put DRM on PC games, but the methods mainly obstructed players and no body liked it. Many games rely on GFWL for such things as multiplayer service, but with GFWL going down by next year, most games on it will need some kind of update to accommodate. But at least you wouldn't have to deal with them anymore.

In any case, I doubt they'd leave that game hanging. I know nothing about it, but I hear about it far too damn often for me to expect it being dropped.
