edit: dota 2 is on mac, but it's really the only free to play game i'd recommend on steam store because the rest are pretty much just pseudo-free i'd guess

Go nuts. Usually it'll be noted what systems any given freeware game is available for, other times you might have to look for Mac ports.
Also, you can never go wrong with Cave Story or Spelunky.

but uh last i heard bf1942 was free on orgin, unless thats only for pc or something
