let's put it in simple words;

indie games/games that aren't on Steam yet are put on Greenlight, a section in steam, where people who have steam can vote for any of the games on there, if the game count goes really really high, then on the day the greenlight games with the highest "likes" are chosen and are put on the store.

As Nal said, the current release works fine with wine. Blockland isn't moving entirely, it's just expanding its horizons.
