Author Topic: Build of the week | Community build showcase  (Read 2269 times)

Trey what are you talking about?
For a while now I've wanted to make a weekly competition where people submit builds to me and every Wednesday I pick one and make a video about it. In it, I would talk about some of the things that make that build really good, and then some things that could be improved upon. The save for that build would be released along with the build. The basis behind this idea was the impending Blockland greenlight. I thought it would be good to make quality content on a weekly
need to fix that sentence

sounds good; can we submit things in progress, or parts of larger builds that haven't been showcased yet?

Thanks for seeing that

Refer here:
  • All builds must be complete. If your build has separate parts and you've completed just one, that's fine. However, make sure that the individual section can stand on it's own as a build.
So, yes

Shameless bump. After I get the first video done (I REALLY NEED SUBMISSIONS STILL) this topic will be moved to Gallery because now I actually have something to show. Until now, it has to float in GD, which is a pretty active board

This might just be the single greatest idea ever.

I will try to get a submission in next week. What I am currently working on is a large ctf map that is reusing the following sewer design but revamping flaws in its looks

A sewer system I made inside the apartment complex at lowest level, look for it!

The actual entire build has a base of 192x384 studs. It shall be five floors, and like I said before at this current rate of progress I think I can get it in the next week. If I finish it and you want to see gameplay in it you could hold out a bit longer for me to get it in game-mode form. Also as stated before I'm using the basic sewer design from above but really just a few looks, they actually look nothing alike. If you would like to see it once its done I will host it. I host the dev public as well.

tl;rd I am making a large ctf build that has sewers in it. I shall try to get it in once its done hopefully next week.

I'd like to build something but i have 0 ideas on what to build
it's a pain

edit: seeing as old builds are accepted i made

An idea would be to allow this opening week's submissions to be old builds thus you should have a decent amount of submissions to make this concept actually work for one week. Hopefully people should then have enough time to create something for the next round. I would at least find this appropriate, as a future submitter that is.

As you can see, for example, Bester already planned to skip this round and go for the next one.

I don't ever see this working unless it's actually a competition with a (small) price, or it's an official thing by badspot/ephi/rotondo etc.
What would make people submit their builds? They don't get anything if they win and they could just post it in the gallery themselves without having to release the save.
There are also no restrictions to what you can build which is stupid. As you see pretty much nobody can come up with an idea of what to build or how big their build should be.

I will try to get a submission in next week.
Good to hear

I think you're right. I can't do any edits this weekend anyway, so I'll (tentatively) aim for the 11th as the first release. I'm going to remove the rule completely for now, and just make it so that I regard new builds higher than old builds in my standards. I can reintroduce the rule when necessary, as well.

I suppose we'll see what happens when the time comes.

This will be the last bump before this thread is locked and migrated to gallery next week. I'm still on track to release the first video on the 11th, but this is just a final submissions call before I actually decide which build I'm going to use.

I'd like to submit a build. I'll just post the link to the imgur album for ease of use.

I'll post the save some time later.
