Author Topic: Serious talk; Raging problem I've had since forever.  (Read 2597 times)

Disclamer: Trolling will be ignored. Try to have a serious discussion please. I really need some advice.

I have this problem, where I will take any competitive/multiplayer game too seriously.
I will growl and curse when I die, or when some bullstuff happens.
I NEVER rage at singleplayer games. And it has to do with a inner problem that I recently realized.

I can trace this back to my childhood.
I used to live in a neighborhood full of kids my brothers age. (2 years older)
They all used to play competitive games (Fighting games, Unreal Tournament, Halo Etc)

Basically the only friends I had were my brother's friends. Which created a problem..
I was the youngest one among my friends, and since I was younger, I sucked at every video game I tried to include myself in. And because of that, I always lost. Literally every game we played. I WAS that handicapped cousin you handed the un-plugged controller to.

Ever since I can remember, I've had this issue. It's never bad when I'm playing alone, but when I play with friends.. I get really competitive for no loving reason at all. "Dude, who cares. He obviously has a fightstick and i'm using a gamepad."

Everyone I played games with knows this stuff, and It's one of the biggest reasons why I was kicked out of every "game night" ever since.
I've gotten much much better now, I calm myself by just choosing NOT to play games at all.

Basically, my question is..
Does anyone have a similar issue with controlling un-necessary anger?
If so, how do you deal with it?

I do have that problem to a degree, though it mostly stems from boredom rather than being mad at the game.

I have anger issues with games to others. I was go on a rant when things that are complete bs happen, however I never really get mad, it's more like irritated when I die. If I DO start to get mad I pull myself away from the game since it's not a good thing for anyone.

I usually get mad when I am in a bad mood and play COD/BF3.

Like when some loving people decide to get into a helicopter I gun in, then do not know how to fly and go upside down.

Or when jets can't get rid of you so they ram into you.

Or when people constantly use stingers/iglas. (Fuuu)

I do this at tezunis because it takes years to respawn!

I was in your position once. My brother is two years older than me so most games he'd beat me at. Well, except Battlefront 2. I'd kick his ass at it. Except one time I raged so hard over something I can't remember that he got up and left. I felt bad because that was the last time I ever got to play a console game with him like that. Well, except Modern Warfare 3. But that was it. lol

Ever since then I've gotten much better, though. I don't rage as badly as I used to, but I used to rage so bad that I'd act like somebody who just got their ass handed to them in League Of Legends' major tournaments — or like my brother when the internet forgets up his performance in League because of it being slow. :D

I only rage in online multi-player games now; but not nearly as bad as I used to. lol

Just try to stay out of playing competitive games with your friends for a few years is the best I can recommend. If you really want to play competitively with your friends, though, I'd pick a game that isn't an FPS. FPS games are always a really bad game to play with friends because if you die, they'll blame your skill. If it were some other random game like Super Smash Bros, nobody would really give a forget if you died or not. lol

Sometimes I just get into a mood and end up being a huge richard. But it's only with people I'm close with. I'm pretty shy around people I don't know but when I'm comfortable around someone I bloom like a social flower. When I get really comfortable with someone I end up letting off steam with them and then I feel like a douche. I do end up getting mad a lot about stupid stuff. I'm pretty sure it's just what I do to vent but I know it's douchie.

Though sometimes people mistake my jabbing at people as a joke as me trying to be a richard. I just don't mind when people do it to me so I do it to them.

I don't think you get what I mean...

I appreciate the replies everyone. It helps to read what others have gone/go through.

When you start to get mad just stop playing the game and forget about it. Play something else. Seriously. It works.

Is it exclusively computer games, or do you have an overly competitive nature in other areas of life too?

Ok what I think you need to know that it is ok to lose. Everyone loses all the time. Even pros. Just know that it's just a game and there's nothing to get mad over because people will accept you losing. Nobody will really care because its just a game and its for fun.

I'm sure not taking your anger to the forums and onto people who like things that you don't would help too.

Oh wait. You're Pandan. That's never going to happen.

I've never had this problem, but... I'd say, next time you start to get mad while playing a game, just imagine the person who you're getting mad at, and your reason for getting mad at them. Will you ever see them IRL? Doubt it. Even if you did, you probably wouldn't realize it. And ask yourself why you're getting mad? Once you start to truly realize that you're getting mad over some pixels are a screen not behaving how you want, and that it really doesn't affect your life in any way, it should be a bit easy to just calm down, and either walk away, or continue playing and just not give a rip.

I've done the same thing for 1 and a half years, only on competitive games. I try to stay away from those.

Get out of the thread.

My anger toward furries is completely unrelated.
