Author Topic: Type in japanese/日本語でおk  (Read 1873 times)

how could this be done? typing in the simplest alphabet (hiragana) would probably be enough to type, i have no clue how it would really work because all japanese characters are two characters combined (ni, ne, no, na, nu, nn) so hm

how would this work and if it could work, how would it be implemented?

Probably not.  Blockland is based on TGE 1.3 which only handles the ASCII character set.  TGE 1.4 added unicode support but it would be a significant amount of work to port over.

The most "simple" way I could think of would be to have an extra font in the chat which substitutes appropriate characters.

i remember when i used to be a weeaboo i asked badspot about it and he told me he "wouldn't re-code the engine just so you can spew your stuffty symbols" and then kicked me

tienes los ojos cómo las chochas

seriously though it would be annoying as forget, sorry

no thanks
nice google translate fail by the way

i actually typed that out by myself :'(

not you monday

what?

it says nihongo de ok

日本語でおk - "Nihongo de OK" (talk/comment only in Japanese)

it was a joke

at least accents would be great.

i want my fancy circonflexe.

Sadly, it's possible but impractical. You'd have to install a Japanese font into Blockland, and since clients don't download fonts, everyone that wants to see it would have to download + install the font.

Pretty much the only option you have is creating a bitmap for each character and replacing groups of letters with the hiragana equivalent. Creating a custom font is a lot more effort.

there was a mod I loosely helped icygamma/sheath make a while back for cryllic, try searching that... might be more work than just modifying the bitmaps, but i dunno.

A bit - because you'd need to replace things in the right order.
Other than that, it's not that much more work.
