Author Topic: I don't understand why maps were removed  (Read 6091 times)

I really don't get it, please provide an explanation it can't possibly be that shadows make it mandatory to remove the terrain. Like does it cause weird shadows? Or what.

It was because it hindered development iirc

didn't shaders make the maps pinkish? & I think some of the really old timers thought "maps were a bad idea to begin with"  not going to name any names.. so guess they didn't want to put in the effort to try and make them compatible or couldn't find a way to

Well for a sandbox game it wasn't a very good idea to remove one of the best things in the game :P

HERE WE GO AGAIN

but seriously get over it; more dev posibilities.

It wasn't the best thing in the game, the best thing in the game is the building abilities. Maps where basically for people who can't build.

Im not going to be like the group of people complaining about it all the time but I do agree somewhat.. I absolutely loved the maps Eric made when I first found blockland the second I saw the characters and maps it was like an insta buy

in some ways: this isn't the game I bought anymore (hear me out im being positive)

take that as you want to ^ but I will say this... a lot of it is fantastic changes so many awesome changes since v7-v8 onward to now
I remember when we'd crash if we didnt have the same add-on bricks as other people lol

maps complicated the code. without maps, we've gotten a ton of awesome updates, with more to come.

hasn't been an update in a while, who knows what the dev team is doing next?

Man, we're sure getting so much more out of our new dev possibilities!

I can build pretty well and I still prefer maps. Maps made the game seem adventurous and it gave an actual point to airborne vehicles. Flying in a plane feels like flying in a box now, to be honest. Unless you're someone like Heedicalking and build those massive TDM maps. But yeah, I prefer maps much more than I prefer the newer stuff.

Now that the game is going on Steam, I hope we're actually going to get some of our promised new content and updates; otherwise maps would have been destroyed for the simple leisure of having really poorly optimized shaders. :D

this honestly sounds like bullstuff
"maps complicate code" how is that even possible
I want to here like a real reason from badspot or kompressor

All i recall reading is that they slowed development, were buggy, and looked bad and outdated

I really can't see how these somehow slowed development, I mean they were buggy, looked bad, and were outdated
but I fail to see how they slowed down developement

From what I remember the collision and rendering used for the maps were forgeted up.

Development was slow  due to maps. When they removed them, it speeded things up.  If you want maps, download the older version and play it.
