Author Topic: PhoneBloks - Most amazing stuff I've seen in a while.  (Read 3323 times)

cool as heck idea, but idk if the technology is available/affordable enough for it yet

and their idea of all major manufacturers 'working together', really i think that was a silly way to put it; i'm 99% certain they just meant individual companies would create different blocks and people would buy whichever blocks they wanted, meaning the competition would still be there, but it's obviously much less profitable than selling entire phones. it'd work better as a single company (maybe accepting third-party blocks as well), but they probably aren't financially able to afford to manufacture everything.

it's an idea, but it's one that wouldn't happen without a few years of work. hopefully it will eventually though.

Yes, at the front page, which yours was not on.
if the OP had used the search button the first and only thing he would see was the topic made last night.

I do, just in case maybe the same exact topic was made a couple of hours ago

Maybe he wanted to make a new topic because yours didn't provide ANY information other than a link.
This at least gives you an idea of what this "Phonebloks" is without having to watch a video.

he could have just said hey maybe provide a bit more information in the topic if that really was the case. but i'm positive it isn't. this thread is borderline spam.

Do you have any idea how fast technology is advancing? Computers used to be bigger than refrigerators, now they can do much more than they used to and they're dozens of times smaller. That kind of change didn't take long at all, to get something like this would be a snap

Except the reason things are getting smaller isn't because they're put into blocks and put on a phone. On top of this not working because no companies would be interested in doing it. It's going to waste a stuff ton of space making the phone either gigantic or super underpowered. Most likely it will be both.

Look at a phone's pcb, there is like no wasted space. With this phoneblok there would be so much wasted space. This idea is cool and all but it's so impractical I don't know how anyone would back it. They don't even have anything close to a prototype. I'll bet everything I have that this idea goes nowhere. But really I doubt this would make buying phones cheaper. Probably just spread the cost out over a long time but in the long run still cost more.

I still don't understand how it should work though. How will each block be compatible with each location? Don't they need specific connections?

Your realism really depresses me sometimes...
