you can be online, while someone else is playing one of your games. you can also play a game while someone else is playing your game. its just you both cant play the same game at the same time

I have this friend at school who has like 4 games and he is gonna bug me to no end to get me to share with him, then he's gonna throw a fit when I decide to play a game while he's playing

Yeah, this is really only useful for if you want to try a game with the account holder right behind you, at class, or maybe with a shared media pc with big picture.

how is this any different then just knowing your friends password for steam?
