Author Topic: Is Detroit the future of many other American cities?  (Read 4797 times)

I had to leave that out because otherwise I'll be shunned and called a tribal. Many groups of people (I think you know which) for generations go through poverty and turn nothing into nothing and don't accomplish much. Our American ancestors from Italy, Germany, Britain and all over were able to turn nothing into something, why can't our people do that? Also Baltimore is also going through a White Flight.
Because we're ignorant. We would rather worry about something going on in loving Syria than something happening in our own neighborhoods. Detroit IS the future of more american cities as more jobs are outsourced. Cities with jobs that have lasted forever, like NYC or Hollywood, that aren't dependent on industries, will survive, but other cities, name Jacksonville because of its root in ports and its river, take away that and you don't have much.

Another reason why we're collapsing is because American infrastructures are built terribly, healthcare is more expensive than 5 star fish implants, and because the minimum wage is too low.

This. America's forgeted. When it's harder to get into a mental hospital than it is to go buy guns and shoot up a school, we know our country is missing something.

It's why I want to move to Canada, New Zealand or Denmark. I may stay in the US but if I do I'm going to Alaska so I don't have to be around the whackyness. What will happen to us in 20 years? I'm very worried. I guess this is a result of multi-culturalism.

Look, I may hate the state of affairs that the country is in, but my family can't afford to move out of the country and since I want to go to either university of Michigan or Colorado at Boulder, I'm not moving out.

A public university? I think you could do much better, you're a very smart kid and you are still young. I am too but I need to think faster. I might want to attend NYU.

Well my family isn't the richest family around (we eat frozen waffles and can barely pay a $700 rent) and I really want to live in Boulder CO, so...

Heck, NYU isn't even good. It's ok to be a doctor though but the odds are I don't want to be one. A lot of people eat frozen waffles, it doesn't mean you're poor or rich. $700 is a lot for certain people, where I live people kill for that. I live in a condominium which my parents own.

To be honest, I'd rather be a pilot. That's my dream job; hopefully I'll find a US-rooted airline that will help me out with my vision because it's 20/25 and 20/30 which is a little under the standards for some modern airlines. And I'd rather be doing domestic flights; to be honest I love the US.

I love the US too, but we are falling in the wrong direction in every category. The Republicans just passed a bill which cuts down billions of dollars in food aid and food stamps, ridiculous! To get out of poverty, you need something to start out with. You can't let these kids born into poverty starve and have Cheetos for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Look; the Republicans are the dumbest people on Earth.

I don't think so, my dad was a Republican for almost all of his life until he switched to the Independent side in the 90's when the party went whacky. I consider myself a Republican, but a very old-school liberal one. I guess you could say the Eisenhowever Republican type.

both republicans and democrats are the same thing. they all sell themselves to the same lobbyists anyways.
anyone loyal to either party cant be trusted.

Cities can't live off ordinances and taxes alone, they need industry to keep them going. The more industries that leave us for cheaper labor the more we get hurt.

China is to blame for our industry loss. And now, they are dying economically. China has been living in a bubble for over 15 years and the bubble is going to burst, just watch. Bejing's hundreds of miles of vacant residential skyscrapers are a prime showcase of it.
