Author Topic: Painful rash after shaving. (Serious topic)  (Read 1844 times)

Ive been shaving for a while now and Ive somehow started to develop a rash on where I shave (Facial area).

It's really ichy and painful, it hurts just to tap it slightly.

It's also not very attractive.

Ive done everything "right" when shaving.
- Shaving cream.
- A smooth razor that doesn't irratate my skin.
- blah blah blah

Serious help answers only please.

Have you had these problems before? Maybe your skin is quite sensitive. Try using a special cream for sensitive skin. It also helps if you apply skin moisturizer after shaving. I have a nice little cream by Proraso, but I'm sure you can pick up something cheaper in your local drugstore. And stay away from anything that is contains perfume and/or alcohol. Like one of those smelly aftershaves. Smells "good", but irritates your skin like hell.

If all that doesn't help, maybe try switching your shaving method. I tried several electrical shavers when I began, but found out very quickly that those didn't work for me. I would look like I'd been fighting with a rabiate cat afterwards. Then I went on to wetshaving, but the results still werent the best. A year ago I switched to traditional double edge shaving. DE-shaving is generally much more gentle to your skin, because you only have one blade that actually cuts the hair instead of ripping them out like most 5-bladed razors. Plus DE-shaving is like 20 times cheaper than ordinary Gillette shaving.

What kind of razor are you using? Brand and model, I mean.

make sure your razer isn't dull (the most i ever use a single disposable blade is 3 times), you've run the blades/gel bars under the water for a few seconds, you wet your face then applied shaving cream liberally, you're not going too fast with the razer, and you're not going against the grain with too lengthy of hair.

also i see no mention of using post-shave lotion/balm.  i highly suggest getting some and using it, also it moisturizes which is good.

I only get it when I use a blade to long.
them things dull horribly after like 6 or 8 uses.

now I shave while showering with this little makeup mirror Lol.
and instead of cream/gel I use mineral oil. makes the blade last longer and gets a safe close shave.

also, I had to learn when I need a perfect shave vs, a decent one to get by on cuz no one really cares.
you can take a few to many passes and forget yourself up lol

i use a gilette fusion power and just use water and i never have any of these problems...

Aftershave. Learn to love it.

i don't even get razer burn or any irritation with shaving and i still use aftershave.  it's just healthy for your face.

I love aftershave. I mean I can count one hand all the times I've actually used a razor to shave but still it's the best feeling. The last time I got my beard trimmed the barber used a straight razor to clean it up and then put aftershave on the spots he used the razor and it burned soooooo good.

i put a lil bit of baby oil on, after shaving
and some moisturizing lotion later if it feels like it

I have read that cutting the hair with scissors is gentler on the skin. It just depends on how thick your facial hair is.

you cant get a clean shave with scissors lol

Exactly, if you're using scissors why not just use a trimmer.

I didn't know. I am probably not the most reliable on this since I have not grown facial hair yet. I know that when I grow it though, it will be strawberry blonde which is alright I guess. All of the males in my family have strawberry blonde facial hair.

I got a rash like that the first time I shaved last year. I used a women's razor and it worked better the next time. Dunno if it's the same problem, but I think they're in-grown hairs. The rash looks kind of like a bunch of entrepreneur les, rights?
