Of course differences exist but I only meant to highlight the similarities. Besides, just because being an admin is voluntary, that doesn't justify not upholding the rules and being a general starfish.

you're using a weird comparison

admins are expected to enforce the servers' rules and can jump over some rules in order to make sure the server is running smoothly
police officers can't jump rules, or else people are put in serious danger or the system falls apart (thus putting people in serious danger)

admins are really more like cowboy cops or vigilantes unless you're playing somewhere where the admin is actually on too tight a leash to act, which is not only embarrassing but extremely infuriating on the admins' part
