Author Topic: Is Starcraft II still worth buying?  (Read 2019 times)

I don't mean the expansion. Just the base game. It's $20 right now and I'm considering it. I never played the original. The only RTS I've enjoyed was AOE2

I haven't bought it, but I played the original and that was dope

Be prepared for little to no tactics and mostly rushing with generally accepted build orders and kiting units around.

Starcraft II is the most Meta RTS game there is.

If you like following build orders and concrete game plans, then go for it.

Bones, I'd suggest you give Supreme Commander (1 for harder, /huge/-scale battles and 2 for novice, get 2 then 1 if you like it) a try. That game is better in Starcraft II in lots of aspects in my opinion.

In other regards, Starcraft II has a demo. You should give it a try.

I was asking this same question to myself 3 days ago. decided to buy it and the expansion pack. no regrets.

it's worth it for the campaign alone. and if you want to play multiplayer you will get your money's worth, easily.

there's a starter edition (free), which normally only has one out of three factions playable, but for the promo right now you can play all three. download the starter edition, try some campaign, try a custom match or two and see what you think.

also something no one has mentioned: arcade mode ... you can spend so many hours here, playing so many different game types.

ice baneling escape (you are an alien thing, you navigate obstacles with a team)
superstar strikers (soccer but with abilities and stuff)
warships (you fly giant ships around in a space map and fight)
and many, many, many more.

SCII is a lot more than just the ranked play that you see in streams.

nothing like AoEII, just saying

If there was an RTS I would recommend to get into the genre it would the Westwood made Command and Conquers. Afterall Westwood invented the genre. Wargame is good real time tactics game. Supcom and Total annihilation is for those who like long and epic battles.

C&C went downhill after 3. fast.

Hence Westwood Command and Conquers. C&C3, C&C 4, RA3, and Generals 2 don't exist to me.

don't worry the last Westwood title was Red Alert 2

it's been so long I forgot that westwood died a horrible death

rip good c&c games

I can already tell Generals 2 is going to be stuff. From the gameplay looks like it's trying to attract the StarCraft 2 crowd being scaling down the battles and increasing the unit speed. Also I hear there will be unlockable commanders. In my opinion unlocking factions is a stupid idea, it only divides the community and forces people to play with factions that they don't want to play with.
