Author Topic: Another reason Badspot removed maps?  (Read 8932 times)

I liked interiors, not so much terrain.

Playing in Bedroom made me feel like I was actually playing AS a lego person in a human's world. It was a great feeling. It's something I still wish I could have.
Yes yes I know, there's a bedroom map made out of bricks. It's not the same.

inb4 "everyone played on slate anyways"

I didn't. A lot of my servers were on my own custom maps (Pandan Raceway, Rainbow F***ing Road, Pandan Death Match) or on bedroom.

Also, physics vehicles suck in TDMs because of the lack of interiors.

I've gotten so much better at building ever since they were removed

Maps suck because half of the time they don't align with the brick grid.

I think the interiors were more important than the terrain.
Well, if they reduced performance by 70%, then I am happy about v21.
Does anybody know when v22 will be released? 2 years?

so pretty much you just want to suck your own richard and show off that you could work a bsp editor?  Coming from a mapper, interiors sucked.  The compiler sucked ass at subdividing large surfaces, intersecting brushes, and using too many faces.  Anything made as an interior was guaranteed to look like garbage.

maps - "Reduce performance"
shaders - can't even be run on most computers

so with interiors and terrain, the game would run even slower when running shaders on a toaster.

He said (or I read), that before v21 maps reduced performance.

I think 80% of Blockland players have the ability to run shaders on minimum, no matter how low their FPS is.

Minimum is just crap, I would rather play Off. Low looks like crap as well, and Medium drops my FPS to around 20 which I can't tolerate just for "pretty shadows", And so now I am stuck with an even crappier version of shadows than before because Off completely removes player shadows when before the Shaders update the Blockhead was able to give off a nice smooth shadow. Not to mention shadows completely break transparency.

You took my context the wrong way, I doubt anyone would choose pretty shadows with 10 fps over good performance.
With your logic you are saying that instead of having minimum-max we should just have max, and than means that everyone can run it happily, when in the real world people want good performance, which is the main reason for having different graphic settings. And if off gives you a more reasonable FPS, then people are going to choose off.

Anyone who said that terrain and interiors made us lazy when it comes to building is handicapped. If anything it made us more creative at building since we needed to get creative to build around parts of the bedroom and to build on terrain and whatnot. Terrain was good because it wasn't a bland, lifeless baseplate stretching on forever.

taking away maps didn't make me "more creative" or anything like that
all the things that i used to do that required terrain/interiors i just don't do at all anymore because i don't want to make a giant thing of terrain or a ton of buildings/whatever

so with interiors and terrain, the game would run even slower when running shaders on a toaster.
we have the option for graphical settings. if having interiors and terrain with shaders will make SHADERS slower on a bad pc, that bad pc can just turn them off (or upgrade). you shouldn't have to gyp graphical settings because a low end pc can't run them.

yeah forget optimization! Also you know nothing about how software development works
