Author Topic: I have a really bad cold and a slight fever, what should I do?  (Read 2471 times)

I had many abscenses last year and was almost held back because of it and every one of those absences were days that I was sick with fevers. I don't want to repeat the same this year, and I am trying my hardest to do my very best. It's night time at the moment and it's why my cold has turned into a fever. My parents left me the option if I feel like I have to stay home or not and I do not want to. During school-hours its just the bad cold which is there (the fever only occurs during the night and early morning). I don't think it's worth it to stay home though since the fever is only predominant after school-hours. I also don't want to give my fever/cold to other kids in the school, but half of my school is sick however most come in with it which is how I got mine.

Is it worth staying home? I need outsider opinions. I wanna try to have 0 abscenses this school year.

You should probably sleep, and drink a lot a fluids.

That's what makes me better from sickness.

OP do you need a straw? i can get you a straw

I agree with this. Some bacteria get's in your bladder and when you drink alot of fluids (Dont dry drown yourself...), you'll piss out the bacteria as well.

I have been drinking as much as I can, and I'm going to lay down in bed a bit and take a hot shower. I have had this fever for a few hours so far though.

Ok thank you all for the advice, it has helped a lot. I think I'm gonna go in, but do you guys honestly believe I should attend or stay home sick?

Trying to rough it for the sake of grades is not a good idea. I've tried it before and it's awful. My sickness would make it so that I couldn't focus well, and I would have to spend alot of class time constantly getting up to blow my nose, or go to the bathroom and use toilet paper if the teacher didn't have tissues. Headaches would be awful too, and the worst feeling for me would be entering cold rooms. It's not worth it. Stay at home.

It also sounds like your immune system is not very strong. Not sure if that's hereditary for you or just because you don't get enough exercise or take supplements.

I get enough exercise but I do not take daily vitamins. I used to when I was younger but I then stopped (not sure why). I don't think it's hereditary and my immune system isn't the greatest.

if it was some stuffty barfy flu then yeah stay home.

a cold? so what Lol. even fevers so what.

a cold is not a bacteria. and you can't piss out a virus

I say this to myself as well, but fevers are a bit different. It is really hard to pay attention in class too or even do work with being ill but I'd much rather attend than having one abscense.
