Author Topic: New CTF concept.  (Read 1638 times)

I think it'd be cool if there was a CTF gamemode where one team sets security cameras all over the map in strategic places while the other team is blind until they're done. The blinded team is then unblinded and is released in one of 4 or 5 starting rooms. The stealth team starts invisible, and has to avoid the cameras. If they're within the view of the cameras, they're visible. 10 seconds after leaving the camera view, they become invisible again. The team that placed the cameras has to find and kill all of the stealth team's members. The stealth team's goal is to capture the flag from the camera team's area and take it back to their base without dying.

Anyone want to help me on something like this?

this is really creative, good job mom

oh yeah and we could use some bricks that restrict cameras on them

should I wait til this thread is dead and post it on another board so more people see it?

Kalphiter: nice
Kalphiter: too bad it'll never happen
Jimmy John: any suggestions?
Jimmy John: well we can't say that
Jimmy John: it's actually pretty simple.
Kalphiter: but the game is dead
Jimmy John: use a similar script to portal walls for the anti camera walls
Jimmy John: use modified camera bricks that marble man made
Jimmy John: and other cool stuff.
Kalphiter: oh i didn't mean it's hard to do
Kalphiter: if you don't do it, no one will probably do it
Jimmy John: we just got greenlit so the game isn't dead
Jimmy John: think happy thoughts
Kalphiter: it shouldn't need "greenlight" to be undead
Kalphiter: but we'll see
Jimmy John: yep
Kalphiter: it's dead right now at least
Jimmy John: meh

cameras would basically send ray casts out, and if they hit a player they would be revealed?

Sounds like a tower defense like game.

This is pretty cool! Though, how would one indicate that a camera is present? Like an emitter or placed model? Also, maybe there could be a way for stealth guys to see where a camera is looking in the form of a soft team-colored light similar to the flashlight mods (kinda like Bioshock cameras actually!). The other problem I see is that it may be a bit much to have the stealth team get across the map and back. Having a one-way trip might make things much more high-stakes, because a single player could cause defeat. The only other things I can think of are that it'd probably be hard to get players to work together for such a gamemode to shine. Still hella neat!

Some other suggestions
-Stealth players are fast to help make up for the ten-second stealth cooldown.
-Stealth players are kind of poorly-armed, carrying weak but ubiquitous pistols, non-headshot rifles, or really crappy shotguns. Also, backstabs!
-'Search/Security' team players are effectively armed, with the same variety of weapons as the Stealth players but their weapons would be at least a little better at their jobs. At the same time, they wouldn't be too powerful, but just good enough to outclass a stealth guy one-on-one.
- Maps for this would probably have to be based on interiors but outdoors/indoors facility-type setups could work with the right restrictions!

yes.

i love you right now.

all of these are perfect. A placed model would indicate where the camera is, and the camera team would get 1 minute to place them around the map (they're items, each player gets x amount of cameras) and the team colored thing would be super neat.

I can work with a 1 way trip.
