Author Topic: Plastiware's Pirate TDM: Updated Weapons! -- Classes, Control Points, Pirates  (Read 6873 times)

A class-based team deathmatch.  Two pirate crews must fight for control over an island.  Control points are not necessary to win, but contribute greatly to your team's score.

I hosted this back in late February/early March, but I stopped hosting it due to extreme unpopularity.  I've recently decided to host it again for some reason.

that looks pretty nice!

map looks uninspired and boring, and overall kind of copy and pasty.

and, because the two pirate ships where people(im assuming, because there really isnt much detail in this topic) spawn is right opposite each other, there really isnt much of a need for this whole island. it seemed like its there just because it can.
"Control points are not necessary to win"

last of all, the concept of the server is "tdm but with pirates and pirate weapons". are there any boats you can ride, sea travel or something?

ideas:

maybe you could make heaps of islands scattered and big pirate ships on either end of the map. then, people must use dinghys to go with a team to an island and fight for that island and capture it.

team with most captures wins.

EDIT: added some stuff / changed picture scale

Put width=whatever in the img tag to change the scale of the image.

OT: How about actually playing the TDM before giving your stuffty critique?

The fact still stands that you haven't played on it.  I'll gladly accept your criticism when your opinion is properly informed.

i dont think my opinion needs to be based on whether or not i play it

i based my opinion purely from what i saw on the topic, being that the map looks spammy and useless, and the concept is tiresome.

Well, alright.  Let me address your criticisms one at a time:
  • "Uninspired and boring."  Well, uh, sorry you don't like it?  Criticism like this doesn't really help, and it's impolite.
  • I admit, the trees are pretty heavily duplicated.  I suppose I could adjust the individual tree heights a bit, but it's not like I'm about to make each tree unique.  The only other thing that was duplicated to any substantial degree are the town buildings, but the town itself looks and feels varied.
  • The whole island plays into the TDM considerably.  Whenever I've actually had any players on, even just two fighting one-on-one, most of the fighting actually is over the control points, so there's a lot of moving around the map.  They are worth 10 points, afterall.  Kills are relatively insubstantial in over score total, they mostly exist to settle stalemates.
  • I opted to keep everything on one landmass, since movement speed is a part of class balance, and any emphasis on boats would largely nullify this.  So yes, it is just a "tdm but with pirates and pirate weapons" and an overall pirate theme.  So what?
  • "Spammy" and "useless" are pretty vague terms that don't really accomplish anything constructively.  Spammy, maybe, but there's hardly anything spammy about the map.

Hope this satisfies.

guys please stop fighting

when is this gonna be up?
