Author Topic: Plastiware's Pirate TDM: Updated Weapons! -- Classes, Control Points, Pirates  (Read 6879 times)

  • "Uninspired and boring."  Well, uh, sorry you don't like it?  Criticism like this doesn't really help, and it's impolite.
and i suppose you dont like hearing opinions either? im saying it so you can hear a point of view other than your own. sorry that doesnt please you, and it certainly isnt impolite since you started the topic. you should know people would give you their opinion.

So yes, it is just a "tdm but with pirates and pirate weapons" and an overall pirate theme.  So what?

"so what" is that people want something new and interesting. if theres not, i can see this server going for less then a week. good luck with that.

  • "Spammy" and "useless" are pretty vague terms that don't really accomplish anything constructively.  Spammy, maybe, but there's hardly anything spammy about the map.
what i mean by spammy and useless is that if your going to be adding boxes in a room, its kind of weird their only there for cosmetic reasons. after all, what you want is smooth gameplay.

for example, this. it looks like a room there for nothing but boxes and crates (and, for that matter, i dont know why you posted this picture in the first place). this would add nothing for the experience, and if anything increase the brick count and brings the map down.

(and, just so you know, all of the other points i didnt reply to i take your point.)

EDIT: decreased the pic size again, lol

did you play it yet

i dont think my opinion needs to be based on whether or not i play it

i based my opinion purely from what i saw on the topic, being that the map looks spammy and useless, and the concept is tiresome.
EDIT: btw, probably will be playing anyway. ill test it later.

The TDM has been updated!  Weapons have now been upgraded to Gravity Cat's awesome flintlocks; gone are Choneis's stuffty weapons.  Hopefully this doesn't throw off the balance too much, and if it does, I can always readjust.

Judging by the OP:

I like the town, although I'm not too fond of the shape. You should try to use ModTer to add more diagonal building/structures. I do however like the building style of the houses and the detail.

I don't like the forest at all mainly because of the trees. Try and get some trees to be at different heights. If your gonna dupe the trees in, at-least have 3-4 trees to chose from when placing. Also, try and add slight terrain on top of your ModTer base to it doesn't look like a bunch of trees sprouted in the center of a baseball field.

The mine could be worked on a bit more. Mainly in the ways of more terrain. Seems that all your tunnels are hallway like. Try rounding them out and adding rock formations and wooden supports. I really enjoy the mine cart tracks. Keep that up.

I like your pirate ship. Keep it that way.

Excellent music choice by the way, although Rougeport might be a bit too upscale for a town like that.

Map is gorgeous. Class balance is hideous.

From what I remember of this server, it needed something faster to get around on, like boats and horses.

Will work on that tomorrow!  I'm thinking I ought to nerf the Captain, and buff the Freebooter and Buccaneer.  Might make some other small map adjustments as well.

I think that's only because of the player count. Once more people are on, it should be better.

I remember playing this before

I've attempted some class adjustment, haven't yet changed the OP to reflect the changes.  If I can get a significant number of players on today I'd like to test it.
