Open console, type setres() so it tells you what the arguments need to be

Probably because they can still easily access and see other programs that way. That's why I do 1777x1000 on my 1920x1080 monitor. Fullscreen is only a little bigger and it takes more time to switch back and forth from program to program, it's just easier windowed.
