Author Topic: my thoughts on citiesxl platinum  (Read 1552 times)

so on the humble weekly bundle, one of the games was citiesxl
just putting my thoughys about it

the graphics are pretty good, but nothing extraordinary
the ui isnt good and the main menu looks like someone took a stuff on my screen
the music is really eerie and unfitting
but what I really hate is that the game follows a free to play, farmvilleish style
leveling up. it makes the game look like stuff. its if you do x you unlock y. im pretty thats not how such a city sim should work, you should have complete freedom over what you build thus having many types of unique flexible cities. yeah this really took away most of the fun. i wish i had my old simcity 4, but I loving lost the disk

Going to be honest.
1 - We didn't need a review.
2 - The form of the review is poor.
3 - A lot of this is really just babbleflaff.
4 - I wouldn't really come to someone like you for a review, especially if it's going to be presented like this.

The game is fun though and I really enjoy it. You brought up 1 or two points that slightly peeved me, but nothing else really seemed to be a major problem.

Try to fix up your typing, grammar, and study into games more before you try venturing into the hard world of being a critic for things on the internet.

guess we also dont need the furry thread, brony thread, your post, etc. whats your point?

im just posting my opinion. alright its poor compared to some ign review from which people earn money. again, your point? im not going to type a 5 paragraph essay about the game, lol

uuuh, what?
Try to fix up your typing, grammar
why do you think that you always have to use proper punctuation, grammar, etc on the loving internet? the internet isnt just some giant english homework assignment. it really takes longer to do all that stuff that doesnt really change anything. and look at 75% of all the people here on the forums, they type the same as me
study into games more before you try venturing into the hard world of being a critic for things on the internet.
I played over 7 hours of the game. and dont tell me I didnt study the game enough to enjoy it, no game should have to be studied in-depth for 30 hours to start being enjoyable. im just listing the main things which stood out to me. and hard world of being a critic on the internet? what, am I supposed to go to college and get a special degree to have an opinion on something? lol

guess we also dont need the furry thread, brony thread, your post, etc. whats your point? - It's like making a megathread that no one will post on for you to just say why you liked something. Kinda pointless.

im just posting my opinion. alright its poor compared to some ign review from which people earn money. again, your point? im not going to type a 5 paragraph essay about the game, lol - Then it's not really worth someone's read then is it?

uuuh, what? - It's me saying you presented this like complete monkey ass.

Typing like a child who just got on the internet is not going to get you anywhere.

To the second part, it was more of a sarcastic toss at how you just aren't generally good at what you tried here.

Overall, if I was looking into a review of this game and wanted to see whether or not I wanted to buy it. This would not be what I depended on. This is like asking a child to explain Star Wars in complete detail to someone who has never seen it.

1 - "It's like making a megathread that no one will post on for you to just say why you liked something. Kinda pointless."
what the forget? i made multiple threads like this already. people left their opinions too. its not like a whole thread which revolves about me. i just put down my thoughts. is it like, wrong to do so now?

2 - "Then it's not really worth someone's read then is it?"
with this reasoning every single response from a non-professional critic (amazon reviews, etc), is useless

3 - "But if you want to be taken seriously especially in a situation like this. Typing like a child who just got on the internet is not going to get you anywhere."
lol are you loving serious

4 - "Fine you played the game, but you presented this like you played it for around 5 minutes."
i only like to play games that start smoothly and nicely. if the first 5 minutes make the game look like stuff, im gonna assume the rest is stuff. to me either the whole game is bad or the whole game is good.

ok, i get it, you like the game. but i dont.

Beh, whatever. I'm not even trying to be an intellectual. It just urks me when I see lazy-ass attempts at reviewing stuff.

But this is the last time i respond in this topic so, i'll just leave it here.
gj writing responses inside the quote - That's the point dipweed.

Inane responses here

ok, i get it, you like the game. but i dont. - I actually highly dislike the game. I just had to find reason within your "review" which i have yet to find.

"I LOVE that game but I HATE it"
yeah sure ok

"I LOVE that game but I HATE it"

Ok last response since you can't quite understand something.

I enjoyed it, but i hate it. Specifically because of the poor execution of over half of the game mechanics. It essentially feels limited for about 50% of the game.

I enjoyed it because pretty and cities, but i hate it because no freedom and stupid gimmicks.

this review is worse than his

you have absolutely no ground to be stomping on his opinion

I wasn't reviewing it. Now we're just prodding each other with sticks and slinging stuff.

uh he didnt need a loving paragraph with each issue he found with the game. He got his point across. If you really wanted him to go more into detail on certain parts, you could ask. You're acting like an ass. He wasn't even trying to give an in depth review, it never said that. the topic title is "MY THOUGHTS ON..."

The original title was "citiesxl platinum" he changed it so pretty much everything i said could be invalid.

picture?
iirc because I own it it's basically a gaussian blurred image of a cityscape with the logo and arial sans font

The original title was "citiesxl platinum" he changed it so pretty much everything i said could be invalid.

He changed it after he seen your first post, as according to your second post on this topic, he already changed it since then. He changed it because he thought the title would be more fitting, not making a megathread about CXL but instead saying that those are his opinions about the game instead. Stop being a richard about this.

Personally, I also enjoyed the game but have been heavily dissapointed by it. Google Cities XL 2010, 2011, 2012 and Platinum separately and try to point out at least 2 differences from the screenshots. Good luck.

Additionally, the game is a massive put-off in terms of optimization. The game does not support multi-core which leads to impossibility of having awesome huge cities (like it's advertised to) if you have a quad-core with small performance/core. This was my city in Cities XL Platinum:

And boy, does it lag like stuff (it does).

The game is a ton better than Simcity in a lot of aspects. The game gives you more freedom, and OP, just so you know, Simcity did the exact same unlock method. It's done this way so you don't have a lot of things you need to get from the start you can't even pay the taxes for. If you really want that, there's a option in the menu where you can enable all buildings for the start.

As for buildings, variety and general pleasure of the game, it's great. The game really makes you look like you are making a city, not a small town. The cities can get huge if your PC supports it and if you can support the economy. The whole simulated trading thing is awesome. You can have multiple cities and they all can work together. Boy, doesn't this sound like Simcity? Anyway. The put-off in this aspect is that there's no multiplayer anymore. Cities XL 2010 (the first) was the only one which had a stable multiplayer and avatar system, but they shut that down completely.

In terms of graphics, the game never had a improvement, perhaps tiny tiny ones here and there (*see the first point). However, I think the graphics are /just/ fine for a city building game like this. The problem is whether you can always support it given the bad optimization in the first place.

In terms of management, the game always does a great job. You are told what is wrong with your city most of the time (at the top, like you can see in the screenshot) and there are a ton of different views you can look at your city at using the right pane.
A problem regarding management is the roads and luxury. Luxury is a forget to deal with and roads can easily turn into problems mid-game, this does force the player to use bus/train lines, but they may not always work like you think they would. I have three different bus lines on my city above, and I still have red roads on multiple parts that I thought I "fixed".

Overally, the game is great. But I don't see any improvement 2010-2011-2012-Platinum in many terms. All I know of, more buildings and maps.
