Okey sorry jeze sorry
how do i do that

i dunno man but i think you need to download it...

Go to the store app. It should be the first thing you see.

If it's not free, tough luck. some versions of w8 dont support a free upgrade.

menen, if you want the win7 start button back download a program such as classicshell

Working on it.

what laptop is it?

Dell Inspiron 17R. My dad does this thing where he asks you what you want, then purposefully doesn't get what you want. I was going to get a more powerful laptop that I picked the parts out for myself on Newegg but he decides to blow that off and get a dell.

Oh well at least I have a laptop now.

I don't see it
Sure-fire method: Open Internet Explorer and paste ms-windows-store:WindowsUpgrade into the address bar.

Working on it.
That'll cost a lot unless you happen to have a spare copy on hand.

Just give windows 8 a chance, a day isn't nearly long enough for you to fairly get accustomed to it. It's a bit of a learning curb, but it pays off.

Win8 is nice if your laptop's screen is actually a tablet you can detach from the keyboard

This is exactly what I mean. Sticking to what "you know and love" Isn't always the best option. just because Microsoft is trying to go for a new, more efficient interface and internal working of the OS doesn't mean you have to bitch and hate on the entire corporation for making something which takes 0.6 seconds longer to get to the main screen and removed a start button.

Except it takes 5 steps to do things you could have done in 1 step on windows 7. It also adds virtually no performance boosts and is basically a loving reskin of windows 7.

How can you be so sure?

I'm almost entirely certain that there are performance boosts. And don't give me that "games run worse" stuff. Not everyone plays BF3 on max graphics.
I wanna see some actual benchmarks on a variety of tasks, with stuff like HDD usage, memory usage, and CPU load and general speediness of things on exactly the same tasks and machines, each running win7 and win8.

Also, there seems to be some obsession with windows 8's interface looking like that of a tablet, and that automatically rendering it as unsuitable on desktop.

Personally, I don't understand that. Just because there are big tiles doesn't mean that Microsoft totally expects you to swipe your entire hand over your 16:9. The big tiles are supposed to be easy to find and select, and at the same time they don't have to change around with the interface to have it work under tablet.
Maybe they thought the other way round, but what's the difference? It's a very clean look and everything is arranged.

I might be wrong. maybe windows 8 really is as stuffty as everyone calls it, I'm not a Microsoft fanboy.

But it bothers me how passionately everyone hates windows 8. There must be a good reason why it was released in the first place.

Except it takes 5 steps to do things you could have done in 1 step on windows 7.
Explain. You make accusations but dont back them up. You have no credibility

It also adds virtually no performance boosts
Then how come my computer boots in 5 seconds with no problems? It takes 10 seconds on my laptop which actually lags on powerpoint for forget sake.

is basically a loving reskin of windows 7.
It loving is windows 7 except with a huge speed boost and ability to have mobile apps. There are literally NO downsides to this

Call me a fanboy all you want, but this stupid loving circlejerk has run its course long ago and people should stop being so batstuff handicapped

get debian linux lol
i hear they're adding support for windows executables soon
linux is crap

also I tried the windows 8.1 preview as a virtual machine (that was slow!) and it wasn't actually that bad

Congrats! A lot of people dislike Windows 8 but if you update it to 8.1 there will be a start button.
