No outlines, they look too lucky then.

It's not really about which one looks prettier. If we're talking about that then it's obvious the non-outlines take the cake.

I stated everything in my long post above. It's more about which one seems to fit the old school style a lot better.

Let me make a case for outlines: Characters with black outlines will be easier to tell apart from the background at a glance.  This is important when you have to think and act quickly.
