I don't think those petitions ever prompt real action.

Anyway, yeah, it's silly.  It's not saying you have to believe in god, it's just a simple patriotic pledge to our country.  Being upset about it is the kind of thing that falls into the fedora wearing catagory.

I've always been thinking about schools.  I don't know if they all do this, but they remove "under God" from the Pledge of Alliegance because it's "offensive" to some people.

First line from this petition:  "All over America schools are forcing their students to "believe" in a God by making them say "one nation under God" in the pledge of allegiance."

That's almost laughable from a Christian perspective.  This isn't freaking Sunday School, it's just two passing words that mean nothing to your average non-believer.

Quote 2 from same site: "I for one refuse to say this part and risk getting a detention from my teacher."

^This is extremist activity, right?

Also read that they've reached 1,500 signatures on it.  Is it really worthy of being removed if a kid from Avondale, Arizona gets 1,500 people to sign it out of the 313.9 million U.S. citizens?

Are you handicapped? Of course you don't find the "under god" part of the pledge offensive because you're not an atheist. Why would a christian perspective matter if you're an atheist.  Not saying "under god" in the pledge isn't extremist. Getting a detention for it though is pretty extremist, it's also been deemed illegal. Your last part about the petition only having 1,500 signatures is pretty dumb too. There have been many petitions about it and the government is ruled by the majority. It is supposed to protect minority rights.

This has nothing to do with whether I find "under God" offensive, because I obviously don't for, yes, I'm a Christian.  My point: Why is just saying "under God" offensive to atheists?

Edit: some atheists, I don't mean them as a whole.

If you had to say a muslim thing you would be offended,  right? Why should someone be punished for not saying "under god"?

If I had to participate in a Muslim ritual, I would respectfully follow suit, but it wouldn't mean I would believe in what they were doing.

You are also completely making stuff up.  I never said anybody has to be affected by anything, I just asked a question.  Like I said before, I don't believe in unicorns but I can still say "unicorn".

Can someone give me a quick summary of the past few pages of what's being argued?

I don't understand why people are even arguing about this crap. You can't argue about religion. You can't disprove other people's beliefs.

It goes beyond a few pages.  It's a usual religion vs. atheism brawl.  Then there's Stocking.

have anyone ever thought of just dropping it

i mean come on these WALLS OF TEXT

Well, yeah, I'll just go with what I said then.

Just look for all the gaps.  When it starts dying down and moving off the list when it practically comes to a draw, Stocking comes back in and argues about something either not important, or non-existent.  Then the thread becomes hot for a while.

You can't disprove other people's beliefs.

That's not necessarily true; beliefs can be wrong.

I mean if you believe that the world is flat, and someone takes you to space where you can actually see the entire Earth, you'll be dead from rapid depressurization as you're ejected from the airlock for being Lalam24.
