You should be able to do it immediately, but it's "/nick name" not "/set nick name"

God damn the last time I used IRC it was so much easier. Irssi is so complicated. I mean seriously what the hell is going on when I type a command absolutely nothing happens? How a bout little message from NickServ "registration mail sent" or "confirmed". Anything.
