Author Topic: What is audacity good for?  (Read 1724 times)

I've used audacity for a while now, just to mess with and often to record my computers sounds or my voice for a video or something. But as far as actually editing the sound, audacity seems extremely limited.

I know I can make some very basic (pretty bad) sound effects, there's plenty of tutorials for that sort of thing. But I can never find any sort of tutorials for anything beyond that. For example- I can find tutorials for robot voices, Vader voices, and that sort of thing, but honestly they all sound pretty low quality. I've always wanted to figure out how to do some more cooler sounding voices or effects that are higher quality but I've found little-to nothing like that online.

Is Audacity just too limited for that sort of thing? Or do you have to know more about the various sound effects and options? I always read that online musicians use audacity in one way or another, which leads me to believe that I can do more with it, but if that's the case then I have no idea how.

Mostly just cutting sound clips.

I use it to boost things by 32db and put songs in a G major

it's good for an all-purpose kind of thing and easy to use. don't know too much about the effects though.

audacity is primarily for recording audio I think, and then crudely editing it so that it can then be transferred into something like FL studio.

I use it to record songs from SoundCloud, for example, when the download feature isn't there (legally).

I use it to fix song loops.

It can make simple beats, and edit tunes. It just doesn't have enough features, which makes it limited.

I know basically what Audacity can do, but I'm talking about the more advanced things- or more specifically, can it do more advanced things? And if so, how? I can't find any good tutorials for that sort of thing anywhere

As far as I know Audacity is not for modifying audio content like adding effects and such but rather concentrates on the more technical aspect of audio editing. Messing about with bitrates, noise management, cutting, adjusting tempo and speed, reverb, converting to other file types and some basic effects.

All I do with it is convert .wav or .mp3 files to .ogg, make them mono, and loop them for blockland

i use it to record skype calls

I use it to convert pictures of my richard into apple lossless files.

Audacity! What is it good for?! Absolutely NUTHIN!

Sorry, reminded me of that song.
