I'd rather kill myself than work 8-6 in a sterile office job for 40 years.
Amen to that brotha.
Right now my overall arching "career" choice is to eventually become a fireman, since here they have good pay, great working days and are reasonably needed due to the whole every day is a loving bushfire thing (oh yeah, almost forgot, they get so many bitches it's loving stupid).
Apart from that all I've ever wanted is to be able to earn enough money doing whatever that I can travel around and see stuff, meet people, etc.
Working day by day in an office so you can hopefully one day pay off your mortgage and then be able to relax a little seems like a terrible way to live.

Well, I want to be an architect, and architects make anywhere from 50k-110k a year, approximately, so that's not a small amount by any means, but not enough to become super rich from.

True, but aren't like half of all qualified architects unemployed/employed in something not architecty? (correct me if I'm wrong)
I mean it's cool as an interest but as a career choice you have to consider these things.

On a side note, is it just me or are 95% of high school students all trying to become engineers?
Like seriously since 11th grade all I've ever heard in any sort of career discussion is becoming an engineer, I mean seriously if this keeps up there is going to be like a 500% surplus of unemployed indebted engineers around.
Might just be where I live though.

"78% of respondents reported that they were currently engaged in professional architecture work – an 8% increase from 2010.
6% reported that they were unemployed, compared to 17% in 2010.
64% reported that after having been layed off, they found a new job within 12 months or less compared to a reported 52% in 2010.
14% said that they still haven’t found another job, less than half of the rate from two years ago.
70% said they are likely to remain in the architecture profession after having been layed off from previous jobs."

This is just something I just found, so I can't particularly vouch for its accuracy, but I wouldn't say half are unemployed. Also, the employment rate for architects is supposedly going up, I think, and people are expecting it to continue. And honestly, I don't care if I don't get a job very often, I want to become an architect because I love houses and designing house. If I have to take up another job to continue what I love, so be it. :P

It definitely does seem to be going up, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it grow much more now, in the age of "need new buildings that look crazy"
And hey, that's a good enough reason to have any job c:

university is worth it in australia, especially if your job is corporate

Take some AP and IB courses in high school and save some of the cost and put yourself ahead when you go in.  Also, if there is an economic downturn, of course everyone will suffer a bit, but it won't be forever.

Last I checked, you don't have to pay for college in Australia
Also, Sweden PAYS it's students to go to college

I just went to East Carolina Uni. for a college tour and of the 23 colleges of toured (whether during student tours or in my free time) this one genuinely felt like college instead of a monopoly. Ideally my mom isn't gonna let me choose NOT to go either army or college, it's one or the other, however she's said she'll cover as much of my tuition as she can... After seeing the marketing program they have and meeting the professors, it actually sounds really promising.
But ideally ECU would be the only college I'd be willing to go to of the 6 I applied to.

This is exactly what he doesn't get. Certifications aren't what soley get you the job. They help but you normally you need some sort of degree.

I think Adin is just trying to justify why he doesn't need school and tell everyone else they don't. He was never look for input.

I think he is willfully not understanding this.
It's meant to be an argumentative topic, I understand how college works, and I've talked to a lot of my college-age friends about what it's like.

Yes I try to justify my point, just as all of you will/have too. However I don't try to make an ass out of myself while I do it, Devil.

I understand his point, but I still see things my way as he has not convinced me otherwise. Therefor I am wrong I suppose?

Are you guys trying to say that going to college means that you'll end up working in an office?
That's completely untrue.

I'm 50% completed in my B.S degree in Geomatics.

In my field, and especially in my state, you expect multiple job offers upon graduation.  And the pay is good, especially here.

My college is cheap to top it off.  These days, college degrees are more of a standard for decent jobs, not going to college when you have the opportunity is pretty stupid.

That's completely untrue.
Uh that's not what I said at all.

Last I checked, you don't have to pay for college in Australia
last i checked, i live in australia and that is not the case

You should want to go to college in order to learn more about the field you want to go into.

Employers WANT you to go to college so you can learn more and not just attempt to fit square pipes into circular pipes because you don't know how to do your job.

A really smart person who went to a UC would look way better than a really smart person who just graduated out of a Blue Ribbon high school.

this is actually a really great topic lol
wow blf, i didnt expect this at all
