because playing Doom today is completely unheard of

Because today's standards largely revolve around barreling the player down the exact path they're "supposed" to go.

It's the Aliens game that never was. I should really play more of it.

oh my god the hypocrisy is deafening

Hi, you've yet to come up with a legit argument aside from graphics, which is completely invalid because that's a technical limitation rather than a gameplay limitation.

them and all the knockoffs, homefront, killzone, etc.

the best shooter i ever played was jedi knight 2 and jedi academy

never played those, but I'm wrong on this one

anyways, in my opinion, linear shooters are sometimes fun because it feels fast paced and straight forward. I like mowing down enemies in MW2 with a LMG

There's no denying that CoD is a fun game at certain points. My beef is its design.

It's probably because Modern FPS shooters don't have enough wide-open spaces that don't feel like a gigantic hallway.

wasnt criticizing it for its graphics, just using the timeframe of low-res games as an example. the reason people don't play doom nowadays is because it isn't anyone's cup of tea. i personally prefer goals and rewards to look forward to in a game besides finishing it

...and I've already stated why this is bullstuff and shows you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to Doom.

That generally makes sense, but if we're talking about CoD: In terms of the campaign or the multiplayer? The only "reward" I can think of for the former would be finishing the [poorly written] story, while the latter's "rewards" are subjectively stupid and most likely the direct cause of an extreme lack of game balance.

do you like masturbate to doom or something because i dont see why its much of a good game

i dont see why its much of a good game

Because you're an idiot with stuff taste it does everything right. The weapons feel good. Its difficulty is reasonable. The level design (for the most part) is great. No hand-holding here. You figure out where to go, and if you feel like you can do it better, you do it again. You keep doing and you find different ways of completing a level. You're not thrown down the singular path that the developers have designated the "correct" way.

Also, its playerbase continues to create maps as well as gameplay mods/source ports to this day. The game's almost 20 years old, I'd say that's pretty damn good in terms of longevity.

Bonus, the majority of the music is made up of Slayer/Pantera/Metallica/Alice in Chains covers.
