Author Topic: Gmod- crashes when I start a server  (Read 1068 times)

For some reason, whenever I try to start a gmod singleplayer server, it crashes. It shows the server loading screen, and just.. crashes.
I do not know how to diagnose anything else.
Here are recent actions I did with gmod:
well, the game was giving me this error:

This application requires either the GL-EXT_texture_compression-s3tc, or the GL_EXT_texture_compression_dx t1 + GL_ANGLE_texture_compression_ dxt3 + GL_ANGLE_texture_compression_ dxt5 OpenGL extentions. Please install S3TC texture support
so I did this:
Quote
sudo apt-get install libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0
[ "$(uname -m)" = "x86_64" ] && sudo apt-get install libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0:i386
And it actually worked. When I started gmod, mouse calibration was off by like more than 5 pixels.
Please help.
I'm using Linux Mint 13

eh, facepunch is kind of useless imo
but please, stay on-topic and help.

if updating your drivers doesn't help, post here http://facepunch.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16

HA
I called it!

But anyway, back to this topic, did you try to verify the games cache though steam or try a reinstall?

I kind of doubt installation is the issue. I just installed team fortress 2 and it gave the same error, and when I did that sudo thing it worked.

good job calling something that should be common sense

I'm pointing out the fact you basically bypassed what it asked you to do with something else.
Of course it's going to cause problems in the end, you're basically trying to find a different solution when there's already one available, which is rather pointless.
Unless there's something I'm missing?

sorry i cant get what your saying
so your basically saying the entire games section of this forum, where people can go and get help on other video games, should never exist and you should just go walk off to some other game forum?
wat

no. 10/10 comprehension.

i'm saying that this is a games discussion board. this is not a game technical support board. if you are discussing games, this is the place for you. if you require technical assistance for a specific game, this place is not for you. each forum for each game will have a place that you can get technical assistance. you are literally handicapped if that is not the first place you visit.

yeah I was kind of not thinking when I posted that, sorry. does anyone happen to have a terminal command to download s3pc or whatever? (I know what -rm -rf is, don't even try)

Right now I'm updating like 700 packages, seems good.
