Author Topic: In Your Opinion, What Is the Best Type of Terrain for Large Builds?  (Read 1689 times)

I want to make a large Medieval RP, and obviously the first step in doing such is making the terrain. I have no idea which style of terrain is most effective, and I know little about terraining in general. I have Conan's tutorial bookmarked, but I am still uncertain. I know that I do not want GSF terrain, as I need to use water for lakes in varying heights. The only kind of terrain I can really make is zonescape (I think that's what it's called. It's like cubescaping with zones), and while it does require little effort to make something detailed, it also is extremely spammy. The style should also be versatile, as I plan on having many different kinds of landscapes, such as mountains, swamps, plains, and deserts. It's not a necessity, but if the style did not have much of a learning curve, that would be nice. What are everyone's suggestions? Also, if any of you have free time, it'd be nice if you could shoot me a PM so we can work together.

TL;DR: I need ideas for a terrain style for a future build. It should:

  • Be brick-count efficient.
  • Look decent.
  • Be versatile.
  • Not be GSF.
  • Optionally be easy to learn.

It gets spammy after a while
Not if you differentiate between 4x4's , 8x8's , and 16x16's

It gets spammy after a while, no? Plus, it's ugly imo.
cubescaping is p much as brick efficient as you can get if done correctly

you kinda have to factor in how large the build is going to be and how long you're willing to spend on it

Not if you differentiate between 4x4's , 8x8's , and 16x16's
he wanted it to look decent, he said

he wanted it to look decent, he said

Well it's either that or a high brick count.

if you're going for LARGE, honestly mod terrain isn't the worst you can do

ModTer blocks can always be an option, you could also make all types of nice terrains with 6x6's.

i probably shoudn't give you advice because if i terrained a medieval thing i'd hit the limit in 5 64x64 plates

The issue I have with ModTer is the fact that I can't make lakes.

ModTer is useful. Bricks can be planted in and through it without Overlapping. You can make water like that.

I'd honestly have to say go with Zonescaping

You can be more detailed without all of the supporting blocks. Just don't put zones where you want water.

nvm zone scaping. Just put mod-ter without collision/rendering/raycasting and do the same method, since mod-ter is default.

I know there's a way to waterize any brick so it acts like a water brick, though I don't remember if it was default or in as an add-on.
