Hey congratulations TBP :D

Here's my Soundcloud
Only one song so far, but planning to make more.

What are some good hardware synths?

budget?

Not Ghille, but could you also recommend some for 50$ or under?

the only synthesizers you're going to be able to get for under $50 is the Korg Monotron, Monotron Duo (I own this), or the Monotron Delay. They are monophonic ribbon synthesizers and they don't offer much for interesting sounds, they're kinda just fun little music toys unless you use their filters for something.

If you're searching for a low budget (hardware) synth that you can actually use for composing melodies and learn how to write synthesis patches, then I would direct you towards the Korg Volca series (what can i say, Korg makes quality cheap electronic gear).

That includes the Korg Volca Beats (a drum machine(duh)):

The Korg Volca Keys (regular 3-voice polysynth with built in sequencer):

The Korg Volca Bass (bass synth with sub oscillators i presume, idk much about this one):

Each piece in the Volca series are 100% brown townog and $150 US dollars.

Another synthesizer-type-thing that you could get in the $150 USD range would be the Korg mini-Kaossilator 2, or the mini-kaossilator 1 for slightly less but with less features. The mini-Kaossilators don't allow you to change their sounds and force you to stick with the presets, but they're pretty fun. There's also an iKaossilator app for iOS that's like $20 and that's pretty fun to play with and write melodies and riffs with.

Not sure, something relatively affordable.
I own a Microkorg (original, not xl) and you can find them for around $300-400 new, $200 used if you're lucky. The original has a lot easier interface than the XL, but the XL has a more powerful engine. Personally, I prefer the look of the original microkorg over the XL anyways so it was an easier choice. However, the XL has a better vocoder and allows for more bands (i dont remember how many) than the original Microkorg (which as 8).

If you're looking for something a tad cheaper and with more easily accessed controls I would suggest an Arturia Microbrute which is $300 (probably $200 used) and it includes a bunch of nifty features such as a physical patch bay and a 64-step sequencer, which is cool as heck. I might buy a microbrute some time in the future just because of the sequencer and for heavier basslines.

In the $500 range there's also a Novation Bass Station II, or the Mininova. I don't know a whole lot about either of these so you better do your research

i have the original one as well and if you have the money for it its definitely a good option.

i like the vocoder on the original one but i really want to get a banshee talk box. i really like the sound you can make with one

I haven't really played around too much with the vocoder, and for that matter neither do I know most of the parameters for the vocoder without looking at the edit matrix, lol. Have you written many patches on your microkorg?

ive done two:
