check it out, give me criticism, constructive or not, whatever, just check it out, thx
The melodies aren't good enough to stand alone. The guitar sounds really dry and the rhythm doesn't feel right. If you're going to digitally do guitar, you have to have subtle variance to make it sound more like the real thing even if you're sampling actual guitar notes.
I know it's a thing to use the same sample repeatedly, but if you're repeating something that isn't extremely polished, its flaws become more and more apparent and abrasive with every repetition.
Additionally, while I do like the melody you made, I don't think it fits with the message. It could be in a minor key, but it sounds major. To settle it in the relative minor you'd need another instrument, ideally a bass of some kind.
The same thing goes for the second melody. We're conditioned to hear that as a major progression. To make it sound real you'd have to take the notes of the chord and very very slightly stagger them in time so that they sound like a strum and not a synthetic chord or a keyboard soundfont.
Moving on from there, the vocals are neat, but not connected to the music.
The drums are nice, but bringing in the same drums for the bit at the end doesn't really work. It just sounds inauthentic and lazy.
Having the record clicking noise in the background also feels inauthentic because there's no degradation of the audio other than that - it essentially sounds like during the recording of this, there happened to be a blank record playing the whole time.
But in general the problem is a disconnect between the elements - even the title. The title makes sense with the vocals and maybe the drums, but certainly not the guitar loops.
Two songs I recently made:
Rainfall
Countdown
What do you guys think? I'm just now learning how to use FL, so constructive criticism would be awesome.
A few critiques for each
The drums don't quite fit in Rainfall. Your synths sound pretty good though.
Countdown has quite a long intro that doesn't really do a lot. I thought that was kinda weak.
I don't like the synths so much on this one.
Also, the volume is basically maxed out the whole time. Dynamics are important, and relying on the limiter to make everything sit in a reasonable range is not good practice. Try turning everything down and then making sure everything has its own place and the pads don't get drowned out too much.
You don't have any problems with the melodies or chords, but they do get dull after a while. These are well-structured songs, but perhaps not interesting enough.
