wat? when you're leaving usually you just pull up to the gate and there's a sensor that opens the gate for you.

no one wants to stand guard 24/7
HOA charges all homeowners a fee every month that they usually use part of to pay the gate guard(s).

even if I was offered a little money (We're talking 30 bucks an hour or less to do it.)

What part of guard(s) don't you get? They could take shifts.

What the forget? I don't even live in a gated community and I feel like this is one of the stupidest things I've ever read. What's the point of a safe? What's the point in locking your front door? Why lock your car? Hell, may as well leave your doors open.
lol what's with you and trying to start stuff? just because he's speaking against it doesn't mean you have to be an starfish

Except people do stand guard 24/7. The community my friend lives in has a gate house and they have someone their 24/7. People would love to sit in a guard shack and get paid for it. I know I would like that job right now.

a bunch of rich old white people getting colonravaged about hoodlums in the neighborhood

You wouldn't?

I wouldn't mind getting paid to sit at my ass in a guard tower surfing the web and playing games on a laptop all day, with the catch being once every hour I have to get up and talk to someone that pulls up to the gate to visit. I especially wouldn't mind if I was getting paid $30 bucks an hour, holy stuff I'd be making $1200 a week to surf the goddamn Blockland Forums!

They're not allowed to actually do anything anyway, just call the police and act as a deterrent.

you would not be a very good deterrent either

That's the HOA's problem, not mine. I've seen some pretty scrawny guards though, I think the psychological phenomenon of observing a perceived authority figure via uniform would act as the deterrent more than the physical capability of the person in uniform.

more than? lmao no. might be a contributing factor but no way in hell it would be more of a deterrent

I don't know, according to the Milgram experiment people will actually go to the extent of killing other human beings simply because a perceived authority figure (in this case a scientist in a lab coat) tells them to.
