The Barrister Incident:

On January 5, 2063, the nation of New Horizons collapsed when the late Prime Minister John Barrister was assassinated by a man who didn't exist.  He was unknown to any of the hundreds of nations and organizations around the globe; he had no identity, no family, no friends, and no record.   Barrister was found dead in his office with a knife in his back and a note written in his hand writing relinquishing control of New Horizons to his assailant.  The man secretly took control, disbanded all other branches of government, and shut down all foreign relations.  A civil war broke out, but it wouldn't last long.  All opposition was mysteriously crushed within a month, officials went missing, and the nation became a ruthless and corrupt dictatorship, ruled by the man with no name.

Who are you?

You are one of the many citizens of New Horizons unhappy with their government.  However, you are unlike many other citizens of New Horizons, and seek to oust the new, corrupt regime.  You may be a secret revolutionary or a double-agent, but your goal is the same- to restore a peaceful order to New Horizons.

The New Horizons Military is the extension of the unknown man's power.  Those in NHM are to keep the people under control, and to keep the nation safe.  As an NHM member, you can access files, supplies and places that NHPLF members cannot, but if anyone finds out about your treasonous acts, you will be in a world of trouble. If you are applying as NHM, you need to state your rank and level of government access.	The New Horizons People's Liberation Front is an underground organization set on overthrowing the dictatorship.  As a member, you can easily blend into a crowd as a law-abiding citizen, while also conduct espionage safely if you avoid detection.  However, if found to be affiliated with NHPLF, you will receive a death sentence. If you are applying as NHPLF, you need to state your current occupation.  You may be a minor government worker in this case.

What is New Horizons?

Summary:

In 2018, people from around the globe with the aim to establish their lives peacefully settled on an island in the Pacific and to leave any ties to the world's political tensions behind.  New Horizons declared itself an independent nation in 2040 when its population reached just over 200,000.  Ten years later, the population increased to 710,000 due to hyper-immigration.  In 2060 when Barrister came to power, the population had skyrocketed to almost 1,480,000.

Geography:

New Horizons is broken up into six districts.  There are three cities.  The northern capitol, Lawrenceburg, was named after the founder of the New Horizons project, Robert Lawrence.  It is the largest city in all of New Horizons.  The eastern city is Greenhampton, an industrial town, and a place at which it is best not to be out at night.  The southern town of Palm Terrace is a small high-end community and was a frequent vacation spot before the Barrister Incident.

Backstory:  "Born originally in St. Petersburg among a high-class family, Vasily was home schooled in his elementary years and eventually was enrolled in a private high school.  He graduated with high GPA and soon was employed under his father's business, the source of his family's fortune.  At age 22, both his mother and father had passed, leaving only him to inherit their massive fortune and business.  Rather than continuing to run the business, he slowed production and decreased its value significantly.  He then had a second person invest millions of rubles in stock in his company, and then sold the company to the highest bidder.  The company that bought his sped up production, causing stock to rise significantly.  Vasily sold his stock, making billions, but eventually the second party that had bought the stock confessed, and exposed Vasily in the scandal. Vasily fled the country, taking his billions of dollars with him.  With his billions he soon moved to the island of New Horizon, which he had heard so much about, buying a top dollar beach front home.  Years after living a quiet life, the nameless man had taken over New Horizon, forcing strict laws upon the quiet society, making life difficult to keep quiet.  In protest of the nameless man, he contacted the liberation front leader, and supplied him with money to purchase the means necessary to rebel from the black market.  He too will join the resistance in their mischievous activities on occasion."

a minor pet peeve regarding these adventures, are what I call the "ruskie wannbe" characters that get a lot of stuff wrong and stick "да", "проклятье" and similar words where they normally shouldn't - this bugs me (an actual russian) to an unbelievable extent due to all the discrepancies and irrationality.

that aside the adventure does sound cool but I doubt I can participate reliably :s

I know enough to get it right friend.  I rarely use Cyrillic anyways, I usually type phonetically anyways, and only with phrases I know.

e: However if you have any pointers to give me or if I'm ever doing anything wrong then feel free to correct me, I enjoy learning about foreign cultures.

An explosion rocks Newhope Hill* at 4:28 AM this morning when a government train was attacked just outside of the city limits.  The train was carrying special government cargo, which had been stolen.  Officials believe that this was a planned attack by the NHPLF, considered a terrorist organization, and a major threat by the NH government.  Local police and Enforcers have found very few leads on the attacks, and are asking residents if they know anything about the attacks.  If you have any information on the attacks, or the NHPLF organization, please alert your local authorities, or call the Domestic Safety Intelligence hotline.  It is 8:16 AM on the 30th of April; thank you and stay safe.         ~  Gerald Wallace - Reporter, New Horizon Times
