Okay guys, lets get something clear.
Q: Why were maps removed?
A: The year is 2013. The maps and interiors in Blockland were designed for 1999 games. Some people think they were ugly, but that is arguable. The main reason maps were removed were because they complicated code a lot and made it so it was nearly impossible to make an update because of the messy code. Yes, maps were fun. But, think about it. Now, we have better code, meaning Badspot can make thousands of new awesome updates! I think sticking with one thing (maps) and never changing is better then having thousands of other awesome things (less complex code meaning more cool updates) in exchange for one tiny thing (maps again).
Q: Why can't we just have Shadows and Shaders + Maps and Interiors?
A: Shadows and shaders are one of the things that the new, cleaner code allows badspot to do. If we add maps back, we will lose Shadows AND all the thousands of update possibilities.
