Author Topic: ATTN: Mac users who think viruses are nonexistant  (Read 3386 times)

mac users are the best targets, because they arent smart enough to get rid of a virus :D

ofc they could just throw all their issues at the "genius desk" at an apple store where their problems will be magically whisked away

and then they wont tell the consumer how to avoid the issue next time so they keep coming back and get more money

I've been a Mac user for over 10 years since I was a toddler, and I have not gotten a virus, Trojan, or malicious software on my computer before. I think any OS can be prone to anything, but it's just that certain OS's are just more protected and secure than others.

Not necessarily.

"Security through obscurity."

Macs are less prone to viruses, not because they're inherently more secure (though they may very well be), but because Windows dominates the market share. If you're looking to write a virus, you're going to design it to have the best chance of hitting any given computer. If you target it towards Windows, you have the highest chance of success just by sheer numbers.

Remember kids, if you buy a Mac, you're making the entire internet less safe for Mac users everywhere.

didn't igloos think macs were virus free

I'd heard about Macs being resistant to viruses, but I didn't believe it, and I was a Mac user when I joined Blockland.

I have been a Windows user for over 10 years and a GNU/Linux user for over 4 years and I have never gotten a "virus, Trojan, or malicious software" on any of my computers, and I have never used any kind of anti-virus whatsoever.

I think you're really lucky then, I've gotten over 5 viruses before on my Windows computers in the past even with anti-virus.

The very day I got my Windows OS computer my father bashed away at the keyboard until there were so many security measures the viruses simply die of boredom trying to break them

I've ENCOUNTERED them, but they never really installed onto my computer.

I usually get alerts from avast! most of the time on TF2, sites that have malware, files that are currently being downloaded and they detect malware, etc.

the only way to get viruses on a windows is if you are extremely handicapped and download random stuff off the internet

is 5 supposed to be a high number?
because usually when people say "over X number" it's a high number

I almost sig'd this.

And I haven't encountered a single virus on Windows either. The key is to not be a loving idiot no matter what OS you use.

Sorry, I can't help but laugh at these kind of statements when I see them.
"I don't get viruses because I'm too smart and I have common sense."

You don't need to roam into a obvious/suspicious file named BLunlocker2013.exe or 003.exe; or go onto a site named freestuff.tkt to get a virus. There's plenty other ways to obtain a virus, it's just the preferred method of naming something an idiot won't pick up since the majority of computer users aren't smart enough to evade such objects.

There's always the infection of legitimate sites to make drive-by-download attacks on connected clients, vulnerabilities mostly caused by Microsoft bloatware or developers who don't know how to properly make applications that involve network communication, or even compiling what looks like legitimate source code that contains malicious strings (probably because you were too lazy to run a checksum).

Just thought I would throw that out there.
