Author Topic: Old Games Today  (Read 3663 times)

With the release of two new consoles that are supposed to "Change the gaming industry" or some stuff, i ignored them both.

Instead, I spent 5 bucks buying a new copy of a game I've had for 11 years now.

Then I proceeded to plug my Gameboy into my surround sound.

Anyone else just sit back and enjoy their old games like this? Or in a cooler way?

I find it hard sometimes to bother with plugging in my old sega genesis, but when I do, it's a happy time.

I have a bunch of consoles hooked to a switcher on a newer screen. Also I guess Doom source ports count.

Not to be an unpopular opinion puffin but I think old games are garbage for the most part.

I've been meaning to go back and finish Half-Life and the Quake/Quake II expansions...no time though.

I'll go with a natural assumption: you dislike things you're extremely bad at.

I kind of agree, but at the same time, I feel like the limitations games had back then allowed for more creative ideas to be created.

Because the gaming industry doesn't want to explore creative ideas anymore. This is especially apparent in newer shooters where the focus isn't on anything new in terms of gameplay, it's all on visuals and whatever.

I have trouble trying to enjoy older games today. I played animal crossing a few months back and it just didnt feel the same. Its like I need new games to enjoy myself.

This game never gets old.

Here's something odd, maybe it isn't, but it's probably easier for one to play Population Growing rather than Wild World and City Folk. If anyone has the same experience but has a reason feel free to reiterate. All I can think of is that New Leaf and Population Growing are the most drastically different from one another.

That's very true. Companies are only focused on making money, and the easiest way to do that today is to rehash a multiplayer FPS four times over.

b-but it has all new weappons!!!!

i play super mario bros and have played half life one fully

super mario 64 is pretty good

i played pokemon yellow all the time

also zeldas

i think companies that have made significant profits in the past might be uncertain about upsetting their audience or trying a new formula and failing

ofc this means they basically strangle the life out of whatever genre they're working in because it becomes obvious what and how to make the most money from a game in it

i don't think game development should ever become a numbers game, and i think consumers' interest in smaller companies who haven't had a chance to become scared in that way shows a lot

as far as old games go, i think they're only good if they actually have aged decently well. sonic adventure may have been amazing at the time of its release, but jeeeesus christ man. it does not hold up today. however, super mario world, for example, is still a fairly popular subject today.
