Descent 3 is only now starting to look outdated.

It was made in 1998/9

I just got up to the water temple again guys.
This is where I take a break.

I only started playing video games when I turned 12 or around there. I played on my friends GameBoy a few times and his Playstation, however I found it to be boring, unrealistic, and it wasn't entertaining or productive for me at the time. Now as games have advanced, I've been able to appeal to some. I now like some old games because of their nostalgic reminders they bring back, and well.. they're classics too! Only years later we realize how valuable old stuff can be.

That's where i stopped.

That's the best thing about old games. Lack of realism, realism replaced by actual creativity. The market was booming with new characters, gimmicks, clones, and other goodies.

Not saying that we don't have a share of nice games these days, but don't go dumping on the past because it was unrealistic.

I know for a lot of people though, they played games to get out of the real world. I play them mainly to simulate things such as driving cars, and things of that nature. I remember my first game 18 Wheels of Steel which I got when I was 9 at Staples when they used to sell PC games. I had a blast with it for a few years. I consider that to be old. I didn't play it often though.

Geeze, the game i started up in that vine was from when i was like 5.

at game club on wednesday, we play mario kart double dash. so many memories flowed through me.

Not to be an unpopular opinion puffin but I think old games are garbage for the most part.
Shooters haven't changed much from Medal of Honor Allied Assault and BF1942. Medal of Honor's Campaign was linear and multiplayer was basically pick a gun and shoot stuff. BF 1942 was pick a class and cap points which is the  same as BF3 and 2, but they added unlocks to keep you playing. CoD's multiplayer and campaign is the same has MoH, pick gun and kill stuff in multiplayer or run through the linear campaign.

Old shooters such as Doom, Quake, Tribes, and Unreal Tournament were about dodging projectiles. Now things like bunny hoping, rocket jumping, grenade jumping, and sharking have all died out because the market decided to make games for those who suck and running so they can hide behind a wall and snipe all day.

Medal of Honor on PS1 was the stuff.

One of the unlockable player models was goddamn Winston Churchill.

Also should mention that the Call of Duty franchise still uses a modified Quake 2 engine, which released in 1997. Talk about "cutting edge next gen".

I love the UT series.

Heh, i remember that. Never got into it.

I could talk about Doom speedrunning all day. Straferunning, wallrunning, grabs, etc. It's like an art form.

*III, 1999. Supposedly it's only a bit of source code, but that doesn't really matter since they pretty much removed everything that made id Tech 3 so good.

I watched a Hell Revealed II run once, then I tried playing the WAD normally.

It didn't go well for me.
