Before I start lemme throw this out there:
Boyscouts- single shot weapons, no pistols, no automatics, no special ammo.
Crew (boyscouts/girlscouts, 14+ in age)- multi-round weapons (aka magazine, clip, whatever), any bore size shotgun, pistols, SOMETIMES automatics (requires a class 3 license member on site and some other stuff I don't fully understand), some special munitions, nothing crazy like HE or incendiary (sadly)
Through boyscouts I learned to shoot pea shooters (aka .22 rifle, one round at a time.) once I turned 14 I joined crew, and I became an "expert marksman" with both pistol and rifle by NRA (National Rifle Association.) It sounds fancy but it's the first rank of marksmanship in NRA, I personally cannot go any higher in crew, I have to advance on my own.
Through crew, I have experience shooting:
410 (really small shotgun shell) pistol (look up raging judge, these are so much loving fun to shoot.)
20 gauge
12 gauge
.22 pistol / rifle
9mm pistol
.45 pistol / rifle
5.56 NATO rifle
.306 rifle
50BMG rifle
Revolvers, semi-automatics, hunting rifles, single-shot combat rifles, etc
We go shooting once a month at our local shooting range with retired marines. Sadly we haven't gone lately because ammo is so hard to get thanks to anti-gun lobbying.
Personally, I love guns (and I take them very seriously, and I hope all of you do as well. Nothing is worse than one bad example, both politically and emotionally.) and I plan on becoming a member of NRA, subscribing to a concealed carry group that I'm subscribed to (weekly emails, members get entered into raffles, legal assistance, and guides for home/self defense), getting a concealed carry license, and I plan on buying 3-5 different guns, mostly smith & Wesson, but I definitely want an M14, and I've found some custom triggers and stocks to fully customize the M14 for better weight distribution and trigger control (also known as fire control by NRA). My dad owns 4 shotguns and a rifle, but I dislike shotgun, they're like the polar opposite of rifle. I've been told by range managers and summer camp rifle instructors that my shot grouping could easily land me a military career as a sniper (10 shots, all bullseye, all within a quarter space, unsure of distance but I think it was 50 yards)
I don't know everything about guns, I like to think I do, but I don't. If anyone has any questions I'd love to be able to help (as I can anyways lol)
