Author Topic: Gun Stuff  (Read 2025 times)

I know a lot of people on here are interested in guns. But it seems like a lot of the people talking about guns have little to no actual experience besides what they read. So I wanted to have a discussion with people that own guns or have actually used them.

Today I went and bought a Ruger 10/22 because I've wanted one for a while and today they had a Black Friday sale for 10% off which was pretty nice. Now I have no experience with guns besides basic safety from boyscouts and not being handicapped. I bought it actually to go to the range with my sister. She's been on the school's rifle team for 2 years now so I figured going to the range when she wasn't in school would help her. Also since my sister was on rifle team my mom was actually open to me keeping a gun in the house.

So I guess everyone just share their experience with guns and what not.

I'd love to own some guns and plan on having a modest collection when I get a little older. Being 17, I do not exactly have all the money in the world to be able to shoot guns whenever I want. I do have my FOID card and have only shot handguns (Beretta 92fs, Walther P22, Glock 19, Colt M1911) and have it already planned out to purchase my own Benelli Black Eagle in 18 days for my birthday. Also opens the door so from then on I will finally start my collection.

I tore stuff up with that M1911 at the range though. Couldn't hit stuff with the p22 and the Beretta kept jamming. Glock is awesome and has always been a favorite of mine. When I hit 21 I'll most likely end up getting some glock handgun, though probably not a 9mm model.

Always wanted to go trap shooting and hunting.

I would love to get a shotgun, but if you don't have a ton of money I would think they're not a great idea. Wouldn't it be pretty pricey for the gun but then the ammo would burn a hole in your pocket?

I've only ever borrowed guns. I've been to a firing range only once in my life and even then I didn't use guns there. My only knowledge of it is trigger discipline and don't point it at things you're not going to shoot. I've only ever hunted wild boars with guns so yeah.

I was supposed to go on a firing range on my birthday but apparently they don't rent out guns like in other places so welp.

A friend of mine said that I can get his 12 gauge off him for $150-200 or 200-250, I forgot.
Its a pump action.

Guns are great.

I mean from what I've seen, a good (not stuff) case of 250 12gauge shells run you about $150. So that's about 60 cents per shell. From just looking up .22 LR, they're like 10 to 30 cents per round. I'd actually love to get myself a Ruger 10/22 as well. I love how modular they are and are honestly a really good firearm for what it is.

I wouldn't be shooting hundreds of shotgun shells in a day either, but yeah every 5 shots would be $3 burned.

If it wasn't for the fact that I have been craving my own shotgun, the ruger would be first on my pick list. But right now it's a nice shotgun, then the ruger and a mosin nagant (probably at the same time due to them being so inexpensive)

I was looking mostly at rifles because I don't plan on hunting anytime in the forseeable future. The next gun I get I'm planning on getting something in a .223, maybe a lever action because they look cool. They had a rifle with a revolver cylinder that I really wanted to get. It was like $600 though which was more than double my 10/22. Also .223 is way more expensive than .22 LR so that also turned me off as of now. I want to pick up a 25 rd banana clip and another 200 or so bullets before I go to the range next week though.

Yeah that's what really got me. Like the big initial price difference wasn't a huge deal, but the difference in rounds is crazy. Like I got CCI .22LR which is on the pricier side from what I've read and it was only 10.95 for 100. So $150 would get me well over a thousand rounds. I feel like anything bigger than .22LR would really limit the time I spend on a range.

I also need to go get a .50 cal ammo can for all of my ammo, probably a lock for it wouldn't be a bad idea.

I know everything there is to know about guns thanks to Call of Duty. My K/D ratio is 5:1. I'd say I'm just about ready for war.

>clip

lol

Thanks for the input bro. So insightful! But in seriousness, what have you called a banana clip called? I've heard it called a banana clip, I guess I could of said high capacity magazine. But I think banana clip paints the picture of what it looks like a bit better. So what guns do you own??

I own a 4/10 and a 22/410. They are so nice, (410 is a shotgun). I shot my older brothers 16 gauge and wooh, my ear was ringing for minutes. I used the 22 on my 22/410 and I hit the tab on a popcan from about 50 feet away. Not that impressive, but I like shooting BIG targets with lots of bullets flying.

Before I start lemme throw this out there:
Boyscouts- single shot weapons, no pistols, no automatics, no special ammo.
Crew (boyscouts/girlscouts, 14+ in age)- multi-round weapons (aka magazine, clip, whatever), any bore size shotgun, pistols, SOMETIMES automatics (requires a class 3 license member on site and some other stuff I don't fully understand), some special munitions, nothing crazy like HE or incendiary (sadly)

Through boyscouts I learned to shoot pea shooters (aka .22 rifle, one round at a time.) once I turned 14 I joined crew, and I became an "expert marksman" with both pistol and rifle by NRA (National Rifle Association.) It sounds fancy but it's the first rank of marksmanship in NRA, I personally cannot go any higher in crew, I have to advance on my own.

Through crew, I have experience shooting:
410 (really small shotgun shell) pistol (look up raging judge, these are so much loving fun to shoot.)
20 gauge
12 gauge
.22 pistol / rifle
9mm pistol
.45 pistol / rifle
5.56 NATO rifle
.306 rifle
50BMG rifle
Revolvers, semi-automatics, hunting rifles, single-shot combat rifles, etc

We go shooting once a month at our local shooting range with retired marines. Sadly we haven't gone lately because ammo is so hard to get thanks to anti-gun lobbying.

Personally, I love guns (and I take them very seriously, and I hope all of you do as well. Nothing is worse than one bad example, both politically and emotionally.) and I plan on becoming a member of NRA, subscribing to a concealed carry group that I'm subscribed to (weekly emails, members get entered into raffles, legal assistance, and guides for home/self defense), getting a concealed carry license, and I plan on buying 3-5 different guns, mostly smith & Wesson, but I definitely want an M14, and I've found some custom triggers and stocks to fully customize the M14 for better weight distribution and trigger control (also known as fire control by NRA). My dad owns 4 shotguns and a rifle, but I dislike shotgun, they're like the polar opposite of rifle. I've been told by range managers and summer camp rifle instructors that my shot grouping could easily land me a military career as a sniper (10 shots, all bullseye, all within a quarter space, unsure of distance but I think it was 50 yards)

I don't know everything about guns, I like to think I do, but I don't. If anyone has any questions I'd love to be able to help (as I can anyways lol)

I have a 4+ foot long pump action 20 gauge under my bed lol

I've shot a 9mm pistol, a 12 gauge shotgun (ow) and many .22s. Guns are great, my dad currently has a .22 pistol and a shotgun, I think. He's traded guns so many times I can't even remember...

Frankly I think bows and swords are more interesting than guns
