Author Topic: The Marines finally called me.  (Read 23054 times)

Every position has its contribution to the marines. Being a tech specialist in the marine also has a major responsibility for training other recruits and other things that have to do with combat from behind the scenes.

The band is important, too. But they will still fight if necessary.

It's good that it exists, though. Some people aren't mentally strong enough to take on the Marines but still want to help their country.
If you want to work with computers then I recommend that Airforce, if you want to play band then go to the Navy or Army.  The Marines are mostly a grunt work branch.

marines suck rooster dude. they're strong infantry people but that's all really, even then the rangers and seals are much cooler. if you wanna deal with technology, like harm said, join the airforce. and if you asked me, I would definitely advise against joining any branch for the band. pretty sure the pay is stuff, plus you have to go through all that bootcamp bull just for that? no thanks. get a music degree and join a nice symphony or something

but on another note, don't give up a dream for anybody

sure I put my name on contact because I was interested but not so much anymore

wat

do you mean you went and sat through MEPS and now youre not going to go in?

Marines aren't that bad. They guard the president and operate his helicopter, they guard many US Embassies abroad, basically they carry a lot of prestige with them.

They all have different jobs, however infantry=/=specialforces. You can't really say who is better or who is the most badass. Army Rangers aren't special forces, but the job of scouting for the main force while trying to maintain being undetected from the enemy and risk being outnumbered is a dangerous job.  Marine Force Recon is Special Forces and they do recon like rangers, but they also do counter-insurgency, sniper work, and crawling through the jungles of south America and killing drug cartels.  Seals perform seaborne demolitions, recon, and counterterrorism. Delta does the same thing, but from the air.  Green Berets go behind enemy lines and do counter-insurgency operations and train locals to fight the enemy through guerrilla warfare.

yeah a big selling point of the marines is that they demand respect from pretty much everybody considering nobody wants to have to do the stuff that they do every day

Stay away from them unless something goes horribly wrong with your girlfriend/fiance.

YOU MAKE ME WANT TO VOMIT.

That's the plan. LOL

My second choice was the Air Force, by the way, but I wanted to be a marine because my uncle was a marine and stuff and it was all motivating and all that good stuff. It just kind of built from there. But when it comes to my dreams, I'd pick my girlfriend over anything. lol

But if stuff goes wrong, I'm just not gonna say anything about it, join the marines, sell my life away, and live happily (not really) ever after. :D

But I'm sure nothing will go bad between me and her. :)

umm the military is one of the few institutions in the country right now with half-decent job security, comprehensive healthcare and a retirement plan.

wouldnt you rather have a real job in your married life than getting a four year degree to flip burgers?

This is what actual civilians actually believe, folks.

no
i called my local recruiter a few months ago. they cant start doing paperwork until Im 17. So when they were at my school I went up to her and told her I was the one who called her. I wasnt 17 so I left my contact information.

Its the same thing as applying for a college, getting accepted, then not going

no it isn't. you aren't even accepted by the military util you've gone through MEPS and pass like a billion medical history and physical fitness checks, and then sit in a room and wait for like 12 hours between security interviews.

and even then if you do manage to get past all that and swear in, you still have to wait anywhere between 3 months and a year to actually get to go in.

i know but people are acting like i have a sworn duty to the military

Marines has no benefits at all, and that's all I'm going to say. I have my preferences on armed service branches and you have yours. But when I go navy or air force, I'll get college tuition, additional pay, health-care benefits, etc

you get nothing.
and on the marine corps' website they even go as far to say they are PROUD to give you nothing.

But if you're okay with that and you're willing to give up four+ years of your life for band with minimal pay, go for it bro! Follow your dreams!

"Marine Corps healthcare coverage keeps all Marines in good health, so they can accomplish their mission and support their families. During Service: While serving in the Marine Corps, every Marine and his or her immediate family will receive a number of health benefits including free comprehensive medical insurance and competitively priced dental insurance. In addition, Marines may purchase life insurance at a minimal cost. Most bases have medical facilities available to active duty Marines and their immediate families. If there are no medical facilities available on base, Marines are referred to a civilian facility. After Service: If you remain in the Marine Corps through retirement, your medical benefits will extend throughout your lifetime and that of your spouse at reduced rates. You may also be entitled to receive prescription medicine benefits, as well as care in a Veteran Administration (VA) hospital"

" Marines with families have the option of living with their families on-base in Military Family Housing. Those who are authorized to live off base will be compensated with a monthly housing allowance. In addition, the Veterans Administration (VA) offers loans for purchasing a home, both during and after service."

" That's why the Marine Corps makes sure  every Marine has the ability to pursue their educational objectives. During Service: As a Marine, up to 100 percent of your education expenses may be paid by the federal government through programs like Tuition Assistance, the Post 9-11 GI Bill and the Marine Corps College Fund. Select Marines may earn a degree through the College Degree Program, which has both a four- and two-year option. Both options cover the cost of tuition, fees, textbooks and uniforms at certain selected colleges and universities.
In addition, Marine Corps Officers have the opportunity to earn Master's Degrees and law degrees under the Advanced Degree Program, Special Education Program and Funded Law Program, all of which are partially funded by the Marine Corps."
