Author Topic: I actually removed ransomware from my computer, anything else I should do?  (Read 1384 times)

So, a couple of days ago, I made a topic asking for help since I got ransomware (the Homeland Security MoneyPak trojan, more specificallly, Win32.Reveton.V) on my computer. Well, I was able to catch it and remove it. Somehow, it didn't boot up one time and I used Windows Defender to quarantine it. I have since deleted the main files from Program Data, its registries, its App Data, its Start Up data (in rundll32) and its shortcuts. As of now, I am running numerous anti-virus scans with many different programs. Should I be doing anything else or is it all good?

burn your computer and bury it

I'm sorry then, maybe I should have bumped the other topic, but of course I'm worrying about ransomware on my computer.

Running multiple virus scans simultaneously is bad because the programs will detect each other and think they are viruses.

I would just suggest reverting to a restore point to before you got the virus. You won't lose any personal files doing this, only files related to the system will be affected.

because you really sound paranoid
didnt you buy 20 dollar alt because you got logged out randomly or something

didnt you buy 20 dollar alt because you got logged out randomly or something
no
i bought it because of the fact that i thought if i got hijacked on some other account i had (because thats when it was going on) i wanted another account ready
stop saying i logged out randomly because maroon cacti spread some really stuffty conspiracy theory
and that was 8 months ago
i really dont care about doing it anymore
so what'd be better is to look into the future instead of continously bringing up my past over and over
because im sick of it

backup all your important data. if you missed it, you will have the option to reinstall windows

It's hypocritical to call someone else paranoid when you bought a new account out of raw paranoia.
And if you didn't want people to talk about things in your past then you shouldn't have done those things

system restore is not working, but thanks for the advice.

this

if your going to run scans like malwarebytes and stuff, space them out rather than do all of them at the same time

if the ransomware is inactive, you should be fine as long as all traces of the virus are gone

if not already, it's probably a good idea to update your passwords on a safe PC

lastly, run ccleaner and wipe out any temp files and stuff and clean out any other garbage it might have left even in the registry

You ran several anti-viruses just for a stupid ransomware?

If Malware-Bytes doesn't pick it up, it's gone.
