oh you're one of those sonic fans
Oh come on. You have to admit that the style of platforming that Sonic games had worked way better in 2D.
Not to mention the camera only has four directions to go.

I'm not saying that only the old ones are good. I loved Sonic Rush because it started the whole dashing thing, which worked amazingly well with the way 2D Sonic levels were designed. Sonic Colors and Generations were amazing because they changed the formula of the 3D games entirely, being based more on speed and getting through the level faster. Before, going back to get an S rank was a chore. I noticed while playing Generations though, that I actually had fun going back to previous stages to get a better rank. And I think Sonic Generations having a hub-world (kinda like SA1) helped it a ton.

tl;dr: I like Sonic Colors and Generations much more than SA1 and SA2.

i don't want to be a nostalgiacigarette either but the truth is that the old ones really were better. and that's not because they're older, it's because they were 2D. sonic 1, 2, 3 and CD were solid as forget. sonic rush, sonic rush adventure and sonic colors for the DS were solid as forget. the sonic advance games were solid as forget.

the only 2D sonic game i can think of that isn't good is sonic boom shattered crystal

sonic's transition to 3D was sloppy at best

i think grind rails really helped when they introduced them in SA2 but of course those provide minimal input and are kinda dumb unless you add in mechanics like rail switching and make it actually interesting to play with

sonic generations was one of the best 3D sonic games i've ever played. the levels were designed to be done quickly and it made everything a lot easier to predict and understand in an instant (e.g. the homing attack target thing, it was always frustrating in past games to just home at whatever sonic felt like)

seems to me that Sonic has barely been mastered in the third dimension, and when they're so close to doing so, stuff like '06 and Boom suddenly pops up and now everyone's throwing tomatoes at them while they're walking the road of shame back to the drawing board.

don't get me wrong, i like a handful of 3D Sonics, i just think some of his best content were his early days.

It's kinda sad that some of Sega's iOS/Android games are actually better than its newest console game.

Knuckles Chaotix was pretty bad

Knuckles Chaotix was pretty bad

i never played that one

i didn't play shattered crystal either but i played the demo and that was enough for me lol

sonic team is p good at music
the only thing they can do well consistently

except for sonic boom, it was just boring orchestra stuff

what the actual forget happened to knuckles' face

that's because nostalgiacigarettes wanted to be annoying so they constantly complained about there being no sonic ports on iphone/android and then sega was like ok If you'll shut up we'll do it.

I probably only like 3D sonic because I grew up with it but still, I really hate it when people whine about how the 90s were better than today

Sonic CD will always be the best 2D sonic game.

That's not how it happened at all. Sega didn't even make the ports themselves. They were actually made by a Sonic fan who made something called the Retro engine which was supposed to perfectly emulate the old Sonic games. He demonstrated it by posting a video of Sonic CD on iOS. Apparently Sonic Team was impressed and actually got it released. Then the guy who made the first port also made ones of Sonic 1 and 2.

nostalgiacigarettes
Don't be a richard.

I thought you were trying to defend Sonic Boom by saying I don't like it because I'm a nostalgiacigarette.
