But it's more than that, I typically hate shooters but this game is fun because it's fast paced, realistic etc etc.

it's realistic feeling
guns feel and generally act in the spirit of real guns, generally the way stuff works is somewhat similar to real life (gotta reload, guns are pretty lethal, there's significant recoil, etc.)

more realistic than cod anyways.

CS Beta 1.0 only had left-handed weapons from what I hear, but it's mostly preference. I switched when I still played 1.6, and I alternated between right/left in Source.
