Deathmatch Classic- / Quake-Like DM

This server is a deathmatch that is meant to be similar to that of Quake. It includes fast-paced gameplay, a stylish-ish arena, killer music and lods of efun.

The Arenas

There are two arenas so far.

qldm1



This arena is a three-level complex with a simple building style and simple textures. It has many ramps and neat geometry that you probably won't look at because you'll be too busy flying through the map at high speeds. The map includes three unique weapons and two types of powerup. It also has teledoors and lava pits.




qldm2



This arena is floating in a void. It has six jumpads and is extra dangerous because it is out in the open.

The Weapons

There are a total of six different weapons in this gamemode. None of them are ones in Quake (except for the railgun) but that's because there are no Quake weapons for Blockland (as far as I know) besides the railgun.

The Crowbar



The crowbar is the only melee weapon in the deathmatch. Rips through Blocko... plastic? quite easily. Its weakness is every other weapon in the gamemode. It is one of the starting weapons.

The Shotgun



Fires five bullets from one. Kills players easily and has the quickest reload out of the non-automatic weapons. It is the other starting weapon.

The Chaingun



Fires a stream of bullets at fast speeds. Turns your opponents into Swiss cheese. It is found on all maps.

The Rotary Grenade Launcher



Fires deadly grenades. Devastating to others but equally devastating to yourself if you're reckless. It is found on all maps.

The Railgun



Fires a powerful beam of plasma. Extremely deadly. It is found on all maps.

The Flamethrower



Sprays a hot flame. Melt your opponents with this weapon. Can you smell the burning plastic? Don't breathe it in; it's toxic. It is currently only found on qldm2.

Power-Ups

Shield



Protects against damage.

Health



Heals you twenty-five percent.

Other Features

Music

A music loop is played upon spawning. You will hear it if you have Download Music checked. It is a song from Quake III Arena. If you do not like it, uncheck Play Music in your options menu.

Health Bar

This server has the health bar mod. It shows how much health you have. If you don't have it, get it.

Tips and Suggestions

Keep moving. Stopping in this gamemode is one of the worst things you can do. Move around as much as you can.

Change your field of vision (fov). 120 or 125 is recommended.

Set shaders to minimum. This gamemode is best enjoyed with shaders on minimum. Anything lower or higher than this doesn't look too good.

Rules

Do not camp, especially near the railgun spawn
Do not use aimbots
Do not be a friend

it's strange that you haven't been on my server then

The print won't show up in the in-game addons list.

First problem I have is the lag/respawn glitch, which isn't your fault at all because it happens on every server (random lag spike, die and respawn, stuck in first person/can't use weapons/can pick items up).

Second problem I have is really how stuff the weapon placement is. There's no nicer way of putting it, it's incredibly unbalanced and honestly makes no sense at all. QLDM1, for instance, has those red alcoves where the nailgun and rotary launcher are - except two of them are spawn points. What.

The railgun is the most powerful weapon on the map, and should really have much higher risk/reward for obtaining it. e.g. the platform could be raised slightly to require jumping onto it in both maps, to make it more open. QLDM2 as it is now can have someone camp up there until someone uses the jump pad to get up to them since they're practically hidden from view up there.

Also, I know Bushi said the weapons were meant to be used with the Valve-like player, but it's too goddamn slow.

And for later down the line, some more music would be nice. Campgrounds is great, but it's tiring. Gotta get more Sonic Mayhem in there.

there is a big glaring lack of rocket launchers here and it's making me mad for some reason

maybe replace the rotary grenades with them? also upgrade nailguns to chainguns

kicking people's stuffs in with the railgun all day makes the entire experience blend together in my mind



also yeah the valve-like player would absolutely not be good here. this is about as quakey as it gets

Okay so, to do:

• Change spawnpoints in alcoves to something else. Probably like health powerups or something.
• Add more spawnpoints
• Change top of qldm2
• Edit railgun spawns

• Possibly change nailgun to chaingun
