1. Get the guns. We have a bow, but guns are best in the initial apocalypse.
2. Raid the local convenience store for alcohol, preferable liquor not beer, cigarettes, matches, candy, cigarette/butane lighters, water, less salty food, hygiene products, medicine, &c. Alcohol is the most useful substance after an apocalypse (painkiller, antiseptic, flammable, last resort fuel (liquor, not beer), inhibition lowerer for anyone who wishes to join my group, trade, dying drunk if it comes down to it), and cigarettes/tobacco are good for post apocalypse trade.
3. Drive back to house.
4. Get my people together, the fittest friends first, with preference to those who are strong, have some experience with guns, are good at a trade (carpentry &c.), or have good eyesight/ears.
4. Hide all the stuff, maybe in the sump pump or the attic.
5. Grab any precious metals &c and put them in the attic.
6. Burn/otherwise destroy the nearest bridges. Save only one for later.
7. Relocate base of operations to a more strategic location, one with a few small ground floor windows and at least two solid doors, preferably one with two or three stories and only one staircase.
8. Defend the house from zombies and marauders. Establish a free fire zone by burning/salvaging to reinforce base of ops the surrounding buildings/vegetation/&c.
9. Begin to loot the surrounding area for usable gear, food, meds, &c. Look for books and cards to keep us entertained in a way that is quiet enough not to attract attention. Try to find maps of the state/region I'm in.
10. Wait it out. Expand our base with abatis, barbed wire, &c.
If order returns within six months to a year and the zombie outbreak has ended, disband the group and split whatever loot we got between the survivors.
If all hell continues to break loose, slowly relocate the survivors to the remaining bridge which we would fortify and build defenses around. We would abandon the base of operations for one that we could use to monitor the bridge. The bridge would provide us with a source of income from any survivors who wish to cross the river;we would charge a small toll, likely in the form of food to pass. If the area in general becomes too clogged with survivors &/or zombies, relocate to somewhere more remote and farther from cities or other highly populated areas. Meanwhile, we would continue to loot the surrounding area for useful loot.
The bridge I have in mind is a single lane temporary bridge with construction materials around it. It's in hick country, but far better suited to my plans than the slightly more local three lane urban bridge near my house.
That's my five year plan plus a little bit to set it up, but my immediate plans aren't really that important, surviving to carry it out would be reliant on common sense and a fair amount of luck more than planning would be, especially since I live so close to a more urban (and therefore dangerous) area.
I've given it way too much thought over the past few months.
