Author Topic: What if you found out that the zombie apocalypse had started?  (Read 3945 times)

I would immediately move to Northern Canada with my caribou brothers and sisters.
C'mon over!

I would continue playing on the computer.
No one can find me in my man cave.

i would definitely go to costco or somewhere that has a lot of perishable supplies. But just keep in mind that a lot of the food there is refrigerated and you wouldn't be able to live off of that for more than a few months.

One of my official plans:

1. Get all food from my house that won't rot. Put it inside of my parents' car.
2. Get my parents to bring along some things that could be useful for barricading off possible houses.
3. Get the forget out of my apartment building.
4. Follow the news on my phone. Get a mobile charger for the car.
5. Costco
6. Costco gas (Fill up until the last drop. Then flee.)
7. Go to Nevada (Preferably away from Area 51, but as rural as it gets, where there is no possible population)
8. Barricade it off.
9. Go to Rachel, NV, see if there's any food left.
10. Go around Area 51. See if there's a way in. If so, STEAL ALL THE THINGS! Hopefully.

I had a dream about this once, and it was really eerie. I woke up on the street I used to take to go to school every morning, in a car. We pulled up into the Publix parking lot and grabbed what supplies we could, then loaded onto a large boat, crowded with as much people as possible. Didn't seem very safe. It began to rain, and the streets were flooded. I kissed what I had known as Jacksonville goodbye, and we were almost there. Then, we arrived at the airport - Jacksonville Int'l. Oddly enough, many flights to Africa were running. We all boarded a refugee flight towards Africa (Jacksonville gets like 1 international flight a month, and no airline flies towards africa anyways but forget it, it's a dream). We were packed onto a refugee camp upon arrival and we had to find people. Once we did, we had formulated a plan. Get out of the camp, and run to the nearest airfield. Then at the airfield, book a flight to the only clean city in the world - the walled off Chestryka, Russia (not a real city). There, we got into a cop car and drove home, safe at last.

I would be a zombie. And do... Well,Zombie things I guess?

I'd do nothing, because a zombie apocalypse would be crushed immediately when it entered the United States. The police, military, and civilians have more than enough guns, ammunition and supplies to stop a few hundred slow, easily visible, smelly, loud, unarmed zombies before they spread past a city.

Wall of text alert;

I had a really trippy dream about this once, except it started slightly differently from normal apocalypses. I went to school as usual, but we soon received word of a nuclear strike on my hometown (i know i know). So everyone started piling into buses to get away from the blast area, while i and another friend drove away in his families' tvr chimaera (his family does have one, I've seen pictures). We somehow cleared the blast zone with ease, but most of the UK got irradiated, and a cause of the fallout was a zombie-like mutation in the bodies' cells. Soon after the car ran out of fuel we learned this, so we started to make our way toward a battleship of the cost of the port of dover, but along the way my friend got infected, so i had to leave him to turn on his own.somehow i made it to the battleship in one piece and my dream ended with the shop being invaded by zombies and my now zombified friend closing in on me.

TL;DR
nuclear bomb on my hometown, i escape with a friend, friend gets infected,i get on a battleship and infected friend bites me.

I would do everything people in zombie films dont

1, buy the anarchist's cookbook

2, make all the explosives in the book, weapons drugs, etc

3, use them on infiltrators, zombies, riot police who want to kill survivors, ETC

4, Wait out the apocolypse by living in walmart with my weapons and drugs

5, yell out WIN

1, buy the anarchist's cookbook

Where, Barnes & Noble?

2, make all the explosives in the book, weapons drugs, etc

Most of those either don't work or are impractical for shooting hundreds of zombies.

3, use them on infiltrators, zombies, riot police who want to kill survivors, ETC

Why would riot police want to kill survivors? That's shooting themselves in the foot.

4, Wait out the apocolypse by living in walmart with my weapons and drugs

Walmarts generally have thousands of sq feet, which is completely impractical. Plus, I wouldn't do drugs while protecting myself 24/7. weapons. Walmarts also have both drugs and weapons already.

Depends on the ability to recognize the threat, mobilize, and deal with it quickly and efficiently.  Odds are the first reports would indicate large scale riots with the possibility of cannibalism, so depending on your view of zombies in this scenario, teargas and rubber bullets would do little.  When the riot squads fail to contain the outbreak in the first few hours it will spread and mass panic will ensue, the outbreak will spread, and zombies will wind up in the sewers and cause trouble later down the line as well.  That's my take anyway.

As far as going to stores is concerned, there is some truth to the idea that people would flock there.  However, we mostly seem to assume that we know more about the apocalypse than everyone around us, so we could probably get first takes.  However, going to Costco or Walmart is equivalent to Self Delete because they're larger and thus harder to defend, as well as greater resource bases, which in turn draws more desperate people you have to keep out, which in turn draws zombies.  Going to Costco or Walmart is like going to a mall, but instead of finding people who've watched too many movies and will do more harm than good, you come across people who have a bit more of a clue and will do more harm than good.  Go for smaller stores like local corner/convenience stores; they're smaller and more easily defensible, though shacking up in a convenience store has its downfalls as well.  Best bet is to loot it and head to a better base of ops.

It is better to stay where you are if at all possible, since during the beginning of the apocalypse there are more likely to be the same people in the area.  So, you'll know that Mr. Hillbilly down the road will KOS, or that Mrs. McGrady downstairs wont put up much of a fight if you decide to take some of her food for your own use.  You also know the lay of the land as well.  Lastly, you only have to deal with a certain number of zombies, as opposed to who knows how many you'd have to kill/avoid if you keep traveling, along with the other risks of traveling: ambushes, dead ends, unfamiliar easy to get lost in places, &c.  But if you're in a city it's leave or die.

Yeah. I'm in Los Angeles and if the outbreak ever started, I'd need to get the forget out as soon as possible. A dry, arid region or a remote island would be your best bet because this is a Max Brooks scenario.

The mosquitoes in this hellhole would kill off all the zombies before they could do anything.

what if OP means a L4D type zombie apocalypse?
Shoot myself.

-snip-

Zombies threatening 100% of the population is complete enemy #1 for the military. Mobilization is no problem for the US; the National Guard, the Air Force, the Navy, the Coast Guard could all be there within hours, minutes for Air Force jets.

Disease spreading through the sewers would effect only sewer workers as sewers already house disease, seeing as they hold, you know, feces. And if you mean through water, water purification plants have us covered. If they had to add some sort of special chemical (which they probably wouldn't) they'd be notified about it within half an hour.

And if there was a city completely full of zombies, the police and military could block it off and, if totally needed, launch a full scale attack on it before any further infection happens.
