Author Topic: Forced Minigames and false server names  (Read 2987 times)

OK, it's starting to get me mad. I went to a server today. The title was "freebuild"...

I join the server, and then it's just a stupid minigame that I don't want to play, but no, it's the forced mini-game method.... This is not the first time this has happened, it's happened a lot actually, and I really hate it.

People need to at least title their server properly so people know ahead of time. I don't want to be cheap-shot by a bunch of idiots as soon as I come in a server, expecting to be building. And if a server says "freebuild" then I would like to be able to build and not have to deal with being stuck in a minigame.

So please people, learn to name your servers properly, and realize that not everyone likes to play deathmatch.

(Sorry if this isn't the correct location).

Yes that tends to happen allot, just join servers that you know some one that way its less likely to happen.

One time I went on to Maxwell's Pixel Art server and got banned for not joining a death match. I was pissed.

Go to another server or play on your own...theres usually at least 10 servers and you can make your own too.

Staying in my safety box server keeps me away from noobs who would misname their servers. I.E. RANDOMGUYS ULTIMATE RACING!! and you join, and its a pixel art gallery.

Normally I do just start my own server. But sometimes when I plan not to play for long (which is happening way more often now), I just want to hop on another server instead. But, sadly, I think I will just be doing less of both now, since it seems the few servers that aren't infested with mods galore, are like 1 in 4 chance they will not be what the server title says. And by the time I found a good server, I wouldn't be in the mood to play anymore.

Oh, and the server I was on was a person I know well, but they did a thing I don't like, and when I hinted it, they seemed to just not care, so I left. I don't think they even bothered to at least change the server name so people would know ahead of time.

Either way, I guess it's not too big of a deal. I really don't spend much time on this game anyway, as I have better things to do (not saying it's a bad game) with my life than spend all day on a video game.

Host your own freebuild. And by the way, I've never been to a Freebuild that wasn't. I've been to plenty of forced minis, though.

Only important people should host like the old times. Now half the servers are nub servers (thats where your getting the problems).

Sort of related, also bugs me is when I am on a server named DM and it has a made DM buid and such ready and some guy joins asking to load a build then keeps yelling at the admin for not letting him build...

Tom

I HATE i t when you get onto a server and its not whats its called. It can get really annoying. And I can't host because our DSL modem doesnt allow port forwarding. Also playing alone gets really boring.

That pisses me off too. That's why I'm going to forward my ports. :cookieMonster:

that pisses me off to, also when someone has there add-ons in a add-ons/add-ns folder.  both are really gay

I think forced minigames are a great idea for managing servers.  Admins can still remove individuals from the game should it be required, and the minigame can prevent idiots from shooting fireworks all over the place.  Just because you're forced into the minigame, it doesn't necessarily mean you won't be able to build freely.

Btw, you'll never see "Free Build" as part of my server name.  Unless I'm just hosting to test / develop a particular Add-On, I almost never care to make the server name anything other than "Trader's Server".

There are almost no servers I care to join.  Usually, I start up Blockland and join most of the more highly populated servers to see which players are there.  If there aren't any players I know there, or there are very few of them, I go to the next server.  Occasionally I find one with a few cool players and I'll stick around for a while.

Overall, the moral of this story is:

It's impossible to control what other people do on their own servers.  Host your own!

Note: If everyone did this, there'd be no multiplayer.   :cookieMonster:

and thats why only expirienced  people should host.

"expirienced" people don't exist.
