I think the forum's Background should be random 1x1 studs of a random color, bird-eye view, and the buttons should be print bricks which glow when your mouse is over it.

We have this layout since 2005. I find this layout ok, atleast is more easy to use than the new YouTube layouts and I would nitpick that Search is not on guest mode.

The forums look really stuff like a website from the 90s, I guess its functionality is satisfactory though. You can download Stylish for Chrome and get neat new styles for the forums, the best part is that since Badspot never updates the layout the styles never become outdated and stop working.

i like how practical and simplistic the forum is. it's very spartan, like it's really only here to facilitate playing the game and the community conversing with eachother instead of it parading itself around like it's interesting in its own rite

forums by definition are defined by the people who use them, not the forum style or system itself

Just thought I'd pop in and mention that forum themes *can* be changed client-sided- if you can code CSS, you can do something called a "user stylesheet," and if you're impatient/don't know how to use CSS, there are browser extensions that can take care of that for you (and manage uploaded override styles, too.  Using one right now, in fact).

Can't really do anything about layout, though.  CSS just handles the graphics style (colors, button images, etc).  The content is HTML generated by PHP scripts from SQL databases, so while it's technically possible to make a re-interpreter to change the layout, it's just not worth it.

I like the forums layout.
It's very simple and easy to use. It's not cluttered like other forums.
