Cube 2: Sauerbraten (Free, no "full version" or "trial" bullstuff)

I just started playing this game yesterday.
It's very nice for a free game. You run very fast and the guns are one hit one kill. And there's a chainsaw you can use to mow down enemies. And get this- when you die, there's physics in the body, so you can possibly die hanging from a ledge.
You can create your own maps.
You can even edit maps while players are playing on your server.
It's really fun, and free.

Keep it mind that it's mostly an engine base. Of course it's going to suck as a game on its own.

Keep in mind that the one-hit kills are only available in the instagib gamemode (which is pretty much all anyone plays nowadays, and is fun as hell regardless).

Can't say much about the base game because I haven't played it in years (and I was turned off by how mediocre it was in my perception), but I think you have to try really hard to make Instagib not fun.
