Author Topic: How do you pronounce Doge?  (Read 12216 times)

what makes you think it originated from that
because he read it on know your meme!!!!

ask those 32 people, and not one of them will tell you that they mean it in the context of the puppet show. they'll say they mean it in the context of the shiba inu, or the phrase here. both of which are only text, so you can't tell me that I'm wrong

And the only context that the shiba inu had to go off of was the 2005 Homestar Runner puppet show episode.

what makes you think it originated from that

Because that's the earliest recorded usage of it unless you count this, but that name is irrelevant to what we're talking about now.

because he read it on know your meme!!!!

Where else would you document stupid jokes and fads?

you're handicapped
whoever started calling it "doge" didn't say "well hmmm, there was that puppet show, and it said 'doge,' so I should call this a 'doge' too!"
they just misspelled "dog." that's the end of it

"When a person resorts to name-calling, they have in that moment abandoned logic in favor of an exaggerated expression of their feelings."

Good job.

And since this misspelling of "dog" has practically become its own word, it must be pronounced physically somehow.

And the most logical answer is a silent E with a soft G.

Maybe this thread should've stayed in drama with all the stuff kicking off.

"When a person resorts to name-calling, they have in that moment abandoned logic in favor of an exaggerated expression of their feelings."
lmao
This is the first time you've been stupid.

and it's just as easily pronounced "dog" as anything else, you don't have to come up with some way of telling the difference, because of context clues

"When a person resorts to name-calling, they have in that moment abandoned logic in favor of an exaggerated expression of their feelings."
:()

/dɔːgə/

Additionally, the other ways of saying doge:

/dʊʒ/     doj
/doʊgi/  doh - gee
/dɔːgə/   dog - uh

This is the first time you've been stupid.

Oh please, I was just pointing out something new to me that he had done.

What are you talking about? There's nothing to come up with because the facts are already there. What context clues are you even talking about?

Oh please, I was just pointing out something new to me that he had done.
He didn't say anything that was the least bit stupid.
Just because you disagree with someone doesn't make them dumb.

reson is tunnel visioning so hard right now

yeah its not j

the entire joke is supposed to be a mispronunciation of the simple word "dog"
its not supposed to be an entirely new word with added consonants
it's pronounced like dog
See, this is where I was coming from with my view.

The famous meme is the Shiba, in which it's a picture of a dog, and the name/caption comes from a stupid/cute way to say dog.

I can understand that.
But when I was reading "doge" it seems to me more logical that doge would be a misspelling of "doggy", since people don't normally add on letters to short words when misspelling (although that's debatable).

I can accept people reading it as "dog", and I'm on basically the same wavelength as that, since it's the same reason I read it as "doggy".
I would say both are acceptable depending upon personal view.

"Doe-j" just seems entirely unrelated to the meme (both shiba and "cnai b"), since the sound isn't at all related to the word "dog".

Oh please, I was just pointing out something new to me that he had done.
uhh no, you were calling him stupid, and that was all you did. at least I had something to say after I called you handicapped

there are no facts
when you're speaking out loud, you're not just going to say "doge" out of nowhere. that wouldn't make any sense. you're going to be talking about the meme, or something relevant will be going on, whatever, but there is no reason for you to need a separate pronunciation
